- be an Australian citizen
- be required to complete an employment character questionnaire
- provide a copy of your current traffic history obtained within three months of submitting your application from the local Motor registry in each state or territory where a driver's licence has been held
- provide a fingerprint sample
- undergo a security clearance, a standard medical clearance/examination and undertake a test for illicit drugs in accordance with the AFP'S drug policies 

Entry level policing and protective service officer rectuitment:

Applicants must:
- be over 18
- be an Australian citizen
- hold a valid driver's licence-
- meet the medical and psychological standards for these applicants.- be physically fit and healthy, and be able to undertake physical training
- have a senior first aid certificate (current for the entire training period)
- have year 12 educationz or year 10 with a trade or year 10 with a Cert IV and/or equivalent
- be able to swim 100 metres freestyle non-stop and unaided
- successfully passed several AFP selection gateways
