I identify with both Existentialism and Progressive Ideals
-I believe that students should come first, not the content. Students are developing rapidly at this time in their lives. We as teachers have a responsibility to our students to guide them into being able to make good choices for themselves.
-In my classroom, I want to have a balance between teacher and student control. I believe that students should have say in what they are learning. This keeps them more engaged and better connects the curriculum to themselves.
-I believe that students will grow and develop the most through their own experiences. Having more hands-on work will allows them to fully experience the curriculum and teach them how their own decisions and actions affect themselves.
-Most of what we are teaching are students at this time should be to help them prepare for the rest of their lives. They will need to build social skills, interpersonal skills, and problem solving skills. All of these things are taught unconsciously through collaboration and teamwork throughout school.
-Although this does align with being a behaviorist, I do think that some rewards are necessary in a middle school classroom.

-I along with my philosophy on teaching, I believe that students learn best through experiences. In my science classroom, doing more labs, experiments, and activities will allow them to fully experience the content. They will better be able to engage and build off of these experiences.
-The experiences that students have in the classroom should be relevant to their lives. If students are not able to connect what they are learning to themselves, they will not find it important enough to keep in their memory.

It is understandable that they did not make a conscious choice. I think that the best thing to do most of the time is to have the students reflect on what happened. I will have the students write up what happened, why it is a bad thing, and what they can work on for next time that situation arises.
-Other consequences might be more permanent assigned seats away from friends.

-I want to have tables, desk, and various flexible seating in my classroom. I believe having couches, comfy chairs, beanbag chairs, and other ways for students to sit will help them to be more comfortable and concentrate. I do not want to confine students to their tables the entire class. Most of the time, I will allow students to sit wherever in the class as long as they are engaged.
-I am a big fan of superheroes. I think that there are many positive characteristics about them that have helped to shape who I am. I think that many of these characteristics are things that my students can also relate to. I want to have posters and signs around my classroom that promote these things.

I will let them go because I know that sometimes they just need to get up and reset.
