The tamariki at Holy Cross School recently got creative with their yoghurt making by using their thriving compost pile to keep the yoghurt cosy overnight while the bacteria did their magic.

Making yoghurt is a simple process but requires it to be kept at a constant temperature overnight. Instead of using a yoghurt maker the gardeners at Holy Cross School made sure their compost was nice and warm by adding fresh grass clippings and then buried the yoghurt mixture (sealed and wrapped) in it overnight.

The next day they checked the compost temperature (a cosy 50C) and dug out the yoghurt to be chilled and served with the delicious Ethiopian curry the kitchen team had prepared. What an inventive way to prepare yoghurt and learn about composting at the same time!
