Playa Giron, painted in 1961, was part of Guyasamin's "Age of Anger" series and focuses on the human suffering in the Bay of Pigs.
In Cuba, as Fidel Castro's strict government expanded, Dwight D. Eisenhower and John F. Kennedy started to plan an invasion in 1960. Then on April 17, 1961, they invaded Cuba with bombs and missiles. With the locals supporting Castro and the Revolution, the invasion failed.
Overall, Guyasamin was inspired by the war within humanity, and the tragedy of the loss of innocent people. Playa Giron depicts pain and anguish of losing family in this tragedy.

The colors that the artist uses are all very dull, and they are mostly black, white, and gray. This has a direct correlation to the events of the Mexican Revolution. The artist wanted to show that the lives of the victims were very dull and hopeless because of their grief and loss.
Also, although the artist's style is variety of simple straight lines, this contrasts the uncertainty of the forward going lives of the women in the painting. Clearly, the main focus is the starving bodies, which has a strong impact on anyone who sees it.
