In this part of the book it it talking about one of the horrible things that would happen down in block 11, and how it is so bad that he can’t even speak bout it.
In the last paragraph it talks about how it was unspeakable and I found it interesting how they said they would rather die then be in block 11. I found it very interesting and surprising that they would rather die then be their.

In this part of the book they are celebrating a Jewish holiday and the men got one day off to celebrate. These sentences surprised me because I thought the German guards where going to let them celebrate there holiday so why would they hide the Jewish things u des the table when they heard loud knocks on the door. Although it was the sister it still doesn’t make complete sense, because earlier in the book it talked about how the German Baird’s let them go and celebrate but just this one time.

In this part if the book Sophia, the mom, just found out that Israel and Samual where taken to the gas chambers when they where brought in. This made me emotional because she just lost her husband and son. They got lucky because they didn’t have to go to the gas chambers but if they showed up 30 minutes later they would have been in the gas chambers. In a way they got lucky but there is no luck in Auschwitz-Birkenau.

In this part of the book it talks about how Micheal was at the little kids part of the camp and he was the youngest and starving. When his mother came in and brought him bread and he got to see his mother after he was ripped apart from her. This made me feel very happy and surprised because she left to go and see her son and it was very heart warming and shocking that she would risk her life to see her son again.

In this part of the book both Michael and his grandmother were saved from the holocaust by soviet soldiers. And, Michael was questioning how he got lucky where his grandmother, mom, and himself weren’t killed right away such as his brother and father. If it wasn’t for his father he probably wouldn’t be standing here today because his father bargained with Schmitt. Schmitt sent them to a better place to do labor and then that person said that these where good laborers so don’t kill them. So in a way his father saved him.

In this part of the book Micheal and his Grandmother are walking to the square. Then suddenly spotted a yellow dress and it turned out to be Micheals mother. They then reunite and she explains how she lived and they explain how they managed to leave Auschwitz-Birkenau. This scene made me very emotional because they where apart from eachother for so long and it is a miracle that they both lived and they got to see eachother again.

In this part of the book Micheals mom is discussing how she wants to leave and go to America. While his grandmother doesn’t want to leave and how she wants to stay in Żarki. They eventually make money and try to leave. This part of the book made me hopeful because they will be able to live a normal life and not have to worry about being abused or murdered ever comer they turn.

In this part of the book they are talking about how the war will end soon, it doesn’t, they are still in the ghetto but will be out soon. I chose this quote because it talks about how if you have hope you won’t have it for long. The Jews where abused and tourmented and mistreated.

This part of the book the German first started invading Żarki and they started to bomb people. This slowly started the ghetto which then started the Final Solution. I chose this quote because it shows how there where innocent people who were being killed for no reason at all.

I’m this part of the book Hilda, Sophie’s sister, is traveling back to Żarki to see if her family is still there and she revives news that only one family has returned. The Jonisch family. She informs him that she is a Jonisch. I chose this quote because it shows that when things go bad just go back to where you last saw your family.
