This article was written for an audience of current leaders - not just instructional leaders, but all leaders. In an elementary school, each teacher is a leader of the classroom, the instructional coach is a leader for educators, and the principals are leaders for the school as well. This article related to all of these instructional positions in an elementary school. My favorite point from this article was about being organized in order to set an example for your audience. Your audience, whether that is students or teachers, will learn to copycat the organizational strategies that they are taught. Another important thought in this article was that leaders that are organized are more productive, getting more accomplished. Organizational skills are a sought-after trait of potential leaders!

This article discusses instructional rounds. During instructional rounds, collaborative teams observe and analyze the use of district-supported curriculum resources. Analysis of curriculum resources can lead to decisions regarding the continued use of resources, additional training in some resources, or the discontinued use of resources. Additionally, instructional rounds can lead to decisions regarding intervention and enrichment opportunities. Teitel (2009) refers to this part of the instructional rounds process as the next level of work – “when network members think together about what kinds of resources and supports teachers and administrators would need in order to move instruction to the next level” (para.19).
