I thought it was HUGE how it talked about the importance of the process with output. Very often I think we only "judge" or "appreciate" the output/end result rather than the process it too to get there! How often does a student have a terrific end product but be idle and unengaged actually getting there? This helps stop that.

I loved the idea that the INBs are in essence a portfolio of student work. I personally think portfolios are the direction we should be taking more with students to grade and praise growth over achievement and this would be a foot in the door to doing that. I also liked the idea of passing it to the next year teacher as I often keep student samples to validate IEP needs and this could essentially do that for me.

A concern of mine was validated in this article that it is so very time consuming. Especially for my students who often have OT deficits.... cutting, copying, gluing and/or coloring can take a great amount of time to accomplish. But I don't want to take that away as that's part of their ownership piece but I do often evaluate if this is the BEST use of my short time with them sometimes or wonder better ways to streamline it.

I thought the 2 points on the notebooks being messy and students hating them were interesting. Some of my students I feel do get very bored cutting and coloring in it as that is not their preferred activity and then they almost go into autopilot while doing it. I liked the response about asking that certain kids get a different option (making a collage or writing a report she noted) but wondered how that would be realistically feasible to apply in a classroom.
