This is a humorous fantasy fiction children’s book about a misbehaving dog that gets sent to a “doggy detention center” as he puts it. Despite the fact that it is far from that, he is unhappy and continues to write letters to his owner, Mrs. LaRue complaining about any and everything! He finally decides to leave the obedience school and manages to escape but decides it is in both his and Mrs. LaRue’s best interest for him to go back home. He gets back home and saves his owner and is a hero!

This is a cute book that can be used over and over to teach POV, letter writing, persuasion, and other useful writing techniques and skills. I think children in grades second through fifth grade would benefit from having this book in the classroom. It can be used for a simple writing assignment as well as for a more descriptive writing assignment for the other children. Camilla Cream loves lima beans but she refuses to eat them because she cares too much about what the other children think of her. Throughout this very nicely illustrated book, the reader watches Camilla go from a being covered in stripes to all sorts of other transformations. In the end, she decides she doesn’t care about what the other children think and eats a big helping of lima beans and from then on, she is her normal self.

I really like this book because I feel like it is another way to show children that you shouldn’t always care about what other people think and do. It is ok to be unique and like things that other children don’t like. This book can be used with children as low as first grade, but even fifth grade students would be engaged and interested in the story. This is a beautifully illustrated book that tugs at the heart for any age reader. It is a true story about a slave’s experiences growing up in an unfair world. I think this book is incredibly engaging and will attract the audience whether they are elementary or middle school age. This is an autobiography about a young Malawi boy whose village is famished because of a drought. There is no money to use, but the young boy spends his time in the library learning about electricity and how to bring it to his village. By being resourceful he is able to use junk to construct a windmill that will generate electricity.

While this is a little bit of a tougher read, I would use it in any elementary school grade. Through the teacher reading the younger ones can get an idea about the story and use it for several activities and it can easily be integrated. For the older children that are able to read it on their own, they will learn that through hard work anything can be done. This is a super cute book about a little piglet, Hamlet, who's family is too busy to pay him any mind. All he wants to do is share his love of reading and poetry with his mom and day, or whoever else will listen. As soon as you start to feel sad for the little piggy, he gets a delightful surprise!
---------------------------------------------------------I really liked this book because it shows what is happening to so many children at home. Parents are either too distracted or busy to pay attention to the little things that mean so much to children. Little Hamlet wants to share his love of reading and poetry with his mom and dad, just to be constantly turned away.  The story is about two boy soldiers who meet each other in the battlefield during the American Civil War. One of the protagonists, Sheldon Russell Curtis ("Say"), is a white soldier who was injured while trying to escape battle. He is saved by a former slave named Pinkus Aylee ("Pink"), who is now a soldier of the 48th Regiment Infantry U.S. Colored Troops. Pink carries him back to his Georgia home where he and his family were slaves. While the frightened soldier is nursed back to health under the care of Pink’s mother, Moe Moe Bay, he begins to understand why his newfound friend is so adamant on returning to the war; to fight against slavery.

I like this book for use in the classroom because it stresses what we say, even when we aren't speaking. You can tell someone so much just by using facial expressions, body language and gestures. Unfortunately, there is not enough solid information here for report writers, and Chinese youngsters may find the text's many generalizations hurtful. A photograph of four teenagers playing handball on a graffiti-filled court does not necessarily mean "signs of gang activity..."; and it is unlikely that Chao's first language is English if his parents do not speak it. To describe the local cuisine as looking to an outsider like it comes "from another planet" is insulting; it is also not accurate to describe the New Year Festival as "more frightening than festive" to children. The author notes that many non-Catholic Chinese attend Catholic school, but neglects to point out that in New York many non-Catholics attend parochial schools.
