social influence chapter 12

Social psychology is the scientific study of how a person's thoughts, feelings, and behavior are influenced by the real, imagined, or implied presence of other people. Factors that influence people or groups of others include the actions that one person withholds in comparison lines that draw in a crowd. Other actions of an influencer include taking a chance of a standard line to experiment with conformity. A great influencer is able to relate to a big group of people by finding the subject conformed to group opinion about one-third of the time to increase the number of viewers. On the other hand, cross-cultural research has found that collectivistic cultures emphasize the needs and goals of a group as a whole over the needs and desires of individuals. Gender differences do not exist in conformity unless the response is private, which enforces that women are more comfortable about certain topics than men. For example, men are not comfortable talking about tampons because they don’t go through that type of experience. Another example is that women don’t really care about the topic of video games because they do not experience the joy that men do in that specific topic. What makes an influencer great is that they are able to take a topic and make it gender-neutral by relating to life events. One of the most well-known influencers that is taking the social app called TikTok by storm is named Charli D’amelio. She started off her social network by simply dancing. Her followers are able to see how “normal” her personality has maintained as her fam has grown. People like her because she is not only funny but she has not let fam change her personality. When the performance of an influencer is relatively easy, it is improved by other presence which is known as social facilitation. In the video below, fans can realize that the video would not be as funny and get as many views without Charli D’amilios’s relation. That is when people use others for fame. Another form of social influence is known as group polarization and it is when members take more extreme positions and take greater risks as compared to those made by the average person. In the video below you can see how the group of influencers take extreme measures by bringing in a snake and you get to witness how relatable Charli D’Amelio is by her reaction.

https://video.search.yahoo.com/search/video;_ylt=AwrDQ3ITXcZf6SgA2Aj7w8QF;_ylu=c2VjA3NlYXJjaAR2dGlkA0MwMjU0;_ylc=X1MDOTY3ODEzMDcEX3IDMgRhY3RuA2NsawRjc3JjcHZpZANvX05JbmpFd0xqSFlwdDVMWHlYZTNnQXZPVGt1TkFBQUFBQ0p0cVR0BGZyA21jYWZlZQRmcjIDc2EtZ3AEZ3ByaWQDODR1al9MNlhUb09WM2FsdS40VDBWQQRuX3JzbHQDNjAEbl9zdWdnAzAEb3JpZ2luA3ZpZGVvLnNlYXJjaC55YWhvby5jb20EcG9zAzAEcHFzdHIDBHBxc3RybAMEcXN0cmwDMzUEcXVlcnkDY2hhcmxpJTIwZCdhbWVsaW8lMjBtZWV0aW5nJTIwc25ha2UEdF9zdG1wAzE2MDY4MzU1MTI-?p=charli+d%27amelio+meeting+snake&ei=UTF-8&fr2=p%3As%2Cv%3Av%2Cm%3Asa&fr=mcafee#id=1&vid=f4e00378e5e0696384257eda0706ba30&action=view

2:55-3:40 shows what is going on an makes it more clear.

3:32-3:40 shows that the influencer is reliably funny.

The behaviors of an influencer are impacted by the presence of others. For example, group thinking occurs when a decision-maker feels that it is important to maintain a group as being anonymous and sticking together than to consider the facts realistically. An example of this type of influence would be anonymous is the singer called Marshmallow. While the singer is not exactly part of a group of influencers, the person who plays the figure role called marshmallow is able to remain unknown, leaving people curious about who it could be.

:30-:50 shows the mystery of who is is

1:05- 1:20 shows who Marshmallow is after it has been a mystery

https://video.search.yahoo.com/search/video;_ylt=A2KLfRyLX8ZfgVAACGBXNyoA;_ylu=Y29sbwNiZjEEcG9zAzEEdnRpZAMEc2VjA3BpdnM-?p=who+is+marshmello+under+the+mask&fr2=piv-web&fr=mcafee#id=6&vid=7ed6671247d73f897646adf3342c8dba&action=view

The Behavioral and Social Cognitive View of Personality Chapter 13

Behaviorists define personality as a set of learned responses or habits. The social cognitive view of personality explains the concept of viewing behavior as influenced by the interaction between people and their thinking. As a student, I can relate to this as matching someone’s energy and being able to relate to them. Many people can see this as the opportunity of having the same thoughts and behaviors as their best friends. Another way that people use a social cognitive view of personality is when they say the same thing at the same time as someone else. In this case, someone might say jinx. The social-cognitive perspective also mentions reciprocal determinism which is the interacting influences between personality and environmental factors. The behavioral and social-cognitive view of personality also focuses on self-efficacy. Self-efficacy is when a person’s judgment about whether he or she can do something, it is an estimate of ability relative to a task. I have personally used this perspective when I am tumbling and doing flips. I always have to look at my distance and make sure the area is clear before I am able to do a flip. This gives my mindset a clear view of what is going to happen and makes my brain more relaxed so that I am able to focus on the task. Others might use this when taking a test. A student might change their answer from A to B and then back to A because they are unsure. another form of behavior is Locus of Control. Locus of control refers to a person’s perception of personal control over their own behavior. It is measured along the dimensions of high internal or high external. When one experiences internal locus control it is their fault. When one experiences external locus control, they usually blame others around them, the environment, and what has happened. Internal locus control is good because it brings one to belie that their life is directed as a result of their actions and what drives them to perform and achieve. People who have internal locus control are happier and more successful in life. They avoid falling into stages of anxiety and depression. Along with that, they are more open to new ideas that promote creativity and personal growth. People who have external locus control tend to believe that their life is controlled by luck, fate, and other behaviors. An example of a wide range of the social cognitive view of personality theories is the movie Frozen. The movie is a perfect example because of sister believes in fate and that everything happens for a reason, while the other sister believes in personal judgment. Elsa is more Internal when it comes to the locus of control. Ana is more external when it comes to the locus of control.

This shows external locus control

1:00-1:15

Or watch it all for more examples and it’s a great movie.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kQDw88hEr2c

0:00- 0:10 shows Elsa believing in her powers to protect her showing internal locus control

https://video.search.yahoo.com/search/video;_ylt=AwrDQ3LOaMZfi3UAdGL7w8QF;_ylu=c2VjA3NlYXJjaAR2dGlkA0MwMjU0;_ylc=X1MDOTY3ODEzMDcEX3IDMgRhY3RuA2NsawRjc3JjcHZpZANQZDBBVFRFd0xqSFlwdDVMWHlYZTNnRmdPVGt1TkFBQUFBQTh0S01lBGZyA21jYWZlZQRmcjIDc2EtZ3AEZ3ByaWQDNUJUc1M1YnlUcFczVWo4dnEwRkVyQQRuX3JzbHQDMjkEbl9zdWdnAzAEb3JpZ2luA3ZpZGVvLnNlYXJjaC55YWhvby5jb20EcG9zAzAEcHFzdHIDBHBxc3RybAMEcXN0cmwDNDQEcXVlcnkDZWxzYSUyMG5vdCUyMGtub3dpbmclMjBzaGUlMjBjb3VsZCUyMGRvJTIwaXQEdF9zdG1wAzE2MDY4Mzg1Mjg-?p=elsa+not+knowing+she+could+do+it&ei=UTF-8&fr2=p%3As%2Cv%3Av%2Cm%3Asa&fr=mcafee#id=9&vid=2970a59510cefc714649e7383f999a6b&action=view

Eating disorders and sexual dysfunction chapter 14

The symptoms and risk factors associated with anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, and binge- eating disorder include two causes which are maladaptive eating problems and genetics. The maladaptive confronting structure in behaviors include making one feel betting in a short period of time but in the long term affairs they are very harmful. The symptoms include eating disorders, self harm, alcohol and substance abuse, sexual promiscuity, shoplifting, risk taking behaviors and compulsive lying. Maladaptive eating problems include anorexia nervous, bulimia nervosa, and binge eating disorder. Anorexia nervosa is a eating disorder characterized by attempting to lose weight to the point of starvation. Bulimia nervosa is a serious, life threatening eating disorder in which people binge eating large amounts of food with a loss of control. They tend to get rid of the calories in unhealthy ways to prevent weight pain. For example, one might regularly self induce vomiting or misuse laxatives to ensure weight loss. Binge eating disorder is a condition in which people keep eating even though they feel uncomfortably full. When it comes to eating disorders and sexual dysfunction, genetics plays a role in one of the factors. The genetics in a female contribute to the risk of being diagnosed with an eating disorder. Genetics can increase the sensitivity of the rewarding value of food. Having an eating disorder does not only put someone in harm of death by the lack of weight, but it can also contribute to the risk of anxiety altered by the function of the brain. While one might not put eating disorder and sexual dysfunction in the same category, there symptoms and causes are very similar. Infact, having an eating disorder can lead up to sexual dysfunction because of the symptoms that lead up to both disorders. For example, risk taking factors, alcohol and substance abuse, and compulsive lying. Sexual dysfunction and development can be caused by sexual functioning conflicts and abnormal interests. Sexual dysfunctions are problems that occur because of sexual functioning. The cove that include physical interests, interpersonal or social cultural issues, or phycological problems that affect interest in sexuality and are rising in response. The symptoms of dysfunctional sexual symptoms include female interests which is known as the arousal disorder. Some people might believe this is when a women decides she likes a women. Older people who tend to be more traditional might see gay people as someone going through a disorder but younger people accept same sex couples and do not think of it as a dysfunctional disorder. Another symptom of dysfunctional sexuality may include male hyperactive sexual desires. Hypoactive sexual desires include lack of interest in sexual activity. The disorder can be caused from relationship problems, negative attitudes about sex, depression, medical conditions, drugs, and aging. Along with that, another symptom may include erectile disorder which is defined as a lack of satisfactory. From the Netflix show called Gossip Girl, the character Blair Waldorf suffered from an eating disorder called bulimia. As I mentioned earlier, Bulimia is when someone binge eats large amounts of food with a loss of control. Throughout the series, the audience got to see how her sexual life came into affect and how the character made it look easy to lie and manipulate people to find joy.

2:40-2:50

Another student had a case study similar to mine and she used the video I was not able to find without subscribing to a website.

https://video.search.yahoo.com/search/video;_ylt=AwrEzNwUmsZf6QcAbC.JzbkF?p=blair+waldorf+eating+disorder&fr=mcafee&fr2=p%3As%2Cv%3Ai%2Cm%3Apivot#id=1&vid=3352110f8bff2e98d911a0a25d5d7e7a&action=view

stress and stressors

When it comes to external events that can cause stress, there are three different factors that are contributed to the specific circumstance. Those factors include catastrophes, major life changes, and hassles. A catastrophe is defined as an event causing great and often sudden damage or suffering, also known as a disaster. Catastrophes can be events such as a flood or crash that can result in high levels of stress. A major life change can create stress by requiring adjustments. This type of stress can be seen though the action of pets during a move. My family recently moved and our cat seemed to be very stressed in his new foreign location. Major life changes have an impact on chronic health problems and risk of accidents. During our move, my cat seemed to be going to the bathroom where he wasn't suppose to be going which is a result of accidents happening because of stress. When it comes to chronic health problems, children are affected based on their ability to learn and adjust. Another cause of stress includes hassles. Hassles are defined as an irritating inconvenience that happen on a daily structure that can frustrate someone and have an impact on a day to day health measure. Hassles can be known as a bother, annoy, or harassment of someone. Examples of a high pressure conflict that can be an inconviencene to someone's daily stress structures include lack of time in the middle of a million tasks and a difficult situation across money problems. In psychology, there are four factors that can be identified when it comes to the topic of stress. Those factors include pressure, uncontrollability, frustration, and conflict. Frustration can be seen as an internal or external factor in which it can result in persistence, aggression, displaced aggression, or withdraw. There are many things that can be distinguished between distress and eustress. In general, stress is the physical, emotional, and behavioral response that occurs when events are identified as threatening or challenging. Many college students experience stress when they are overloaded in work. Stress that has a negative impact is called distress. Negative stress is when someone is not able to concentrate, they are always tired and sleepy, have no thoughts, always negative and depressed, the sense of feeling weak, they are unable to remember things and are very forgetful, unable to rest and relax, and they become hypertensive. Eustress is the optimal amount of stress that people need to function well, which is also known as positive stress. Factors of positive stress include good concentration, alert and energetic, creative, feeling strong, and having the ability to relax. The Netflix tv show called Gossip Girl has a character name Jenny Humphrey and the fans get to witness her move from Brooklyn to the upper east side. Jenny’s behavior starts to change as she becomes a deva and has the mindset that she is better than everyone. At first the move was stressful for her and it changed her personality.

:56-1:29

This shows how big jenny's head has gotten since she moved to the upper east side.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d45kuXzvftg
