Welcome back to school Grade 5's and 6's! For those of you who are unfamiliar with Padlet, it is an electronic communication board that will be used to record homework for both student and parent access on a daily basis.

In addition to posting the homework on Padlet, students still will be required to record the information in their agenda's each day. When assignments or handouts are distributed, you will also be able to find a copy of these on this message board. In addition to this, student criteria for assignments that is co-constructed in class will also be accessible.

Class Dojo will be another electronic communication tool used in this class that will provide parents with information about classwork being completed in addition to information about the progress of their child. You will receive more information about this soon!

Dear Parents,
I apologize for the late notification but we just received confirmation today that this coming Tuesday we will be having a chef from Pizza Nova come to the school and teach the students how to make perfect pizza dough. We will be connecting this activity to procedural writing in the curriculum. Attached is a permission form for the activity which I will provide students on Monday. If possible, can you please print and sign the consent form and return it to school before Tuesday. The students will not be consuming the dough, they will just be learning how to create perfect pizza dough.

- hat (if going skiing or snowboards at horseshoe valley, insulated helmets will be provided)
-waterproof mittens
- scarf/ face protector
- thermal socks or multiple pairs of socks, with extra pairs in case they get wet
- snowpants with comfortable pants underneath (no jeans). If you do not have snow pants, slush pants with additional pant layers underneath will do, but bring extra pants incase they get wet
- snowboarders and skiers can bring wrist guards
- warm winter jacket
- a lunch and snacks for the day

2. Friday is a PD day and Monday is Family Day so there will be no school either day! Enjoy your long weekend.

Items Coming Home Today

1. Students wrote a "Mad Minute" multiplication quiz today. In total they had 60 questions to answer in 3 minutes. Grade 4 students must know their multiplication tables up to 10 and Grade 5s up to 12. They will continue doing these quizes every other day for the next two weeks. I am hoping that all students are reviewing there multiplication tables each night, and that students will show improvement! I was proud to see that both grade 4 and grade 5 students received 100%.

I have sent the quiz home today with your child. Please sign the quiz and return it tomorrow so I am aware that you saw it. If your child received less then a 70%, please have them review their multiplication tables each night this week (the should still practice if they did better).

If your child did not receive a passing grade, do not fret. Over the next two weeks we will do a "Mad Minute Math" every other day. In total they will do six tests, and I will take there marks for their top three tests and drop the other three marks!
