  1. Air travel executives exchange model airplanes. These models--typically 1 to 2 feet (30.5 to 61 centimeters) long--are miniature reproductions of passenger planes. Executives use them to help seal deals.
  2. Aircraft manufacturers understand the importance of model airplanes. The decision to purchase a real plane is a big one for airlines. Desktop models can help lead to a sale.
  3. Airline executives who receive the models airplanes as gifts treasure them. Many collect the models, putting them on display in their offices. The models sometimes cover their desks and bookshelves.
