Reading lengthy texts, novels, may help you expand your vocabulary. While reading a can be tedious, it is worthwhile if you pursue it. For us, the Facebook generation, literature is important. Even though we live in a contemporary day when we utilize technology to entertain ourselves, learn new things, and make our lives easier.

Reading short stories, novels, and long texts differs from posts or rants on social media. The novel, long text, short stories are usually published by authors, which means research had been before publishing it. Providing a detailed book. It contains a story that holds lessons about reality and history. Unlike reading tweets and Facebook status, it doesn't have a reliable source. Most posts are about themselves, rant about the government, bullying, and more. Literature is important, especially in today's generation. Literature provides knowledge about history in different kinds of ways.

The importance of literature is that it gives us knowledge and morals that we can apply to our daily basis in life. Also, another reason why literature is important is because people can unite because of a common vision with the literary works.

In our generation, Social media is really popular nowadays, but it is really different from reading a book or novels. Reading a post on a social media platform can be in a form of news, meme, or rant, while in short stories or novels there is a format that you should follow. Literature preserves our history, it is really important in our generation to learn our own literature so that it can also be passed on to the next generation.

Reading long texts like short stories and novels is indeed different from reading tweets and status updates on Facebook. Short stories and novels serve a variety of objectives, depending on the story. These stories have a format, a storyline, and other elements. Some tweets and Facebook status updates, on the other hand, contain highly sensitive and explicit content. The Facebook generation might not learn about the history of literatures, short stories, novels, etc. because they were primarily engaged in the digital world of social media such as facebook, twitter, and other social media platforms. They should try to explore the history of literatures because it contains details that social media does not have.

Reading written matters like stories, poems and novels can help to make us more literate about historical events, different cultures and to other people’s specification especially to those who made their literary pieces as their weapon during their time. It is way too far from reading tweets and Facebook posts because of its educational purpose. We all know that social media is the way to keep up with our family and friends, posts on social media are usually informal unlike the novels and stories we have just read. I think the facebook generation should know how to explore more about novels and stories so that the true essence of literacy will never be forgotten.

Even though they are both made to express one's feelings, and a glance from one's opinions and viewpoints on a certain topic, reading long texts is much different from reading social media posts, such as tweets and Facebook status. Reading long texts, like short stories and novels have a specific structure or format, which makes it a form of art. Additionally, these kinds of long text uses pretty complicated and profound words, as well as different kinds of figures of speech helping us to cultivate our knowledge, analyze things in deeper sense, and widen our perspective. In line with this, authors of long texts are Promethean especially with how they are able to communicate and connect with their readers. On the other hand, social media platforms do not require any format in composing a text, may it be long or short. Unlike short stories and novels, posts on these platforms uses simpler and easy words, which is not effective in driving the readers to extend their understanding beyond words. Also, the author of a post on a social media can interact with his/her readers.

From these comparisons, we can draw a conclusion that literature takes a big part in this new generation. It is the foundation of these emerging and developing platforms. The idea of these tweets and all other blog posts came from literature, which purpose is to express emotion, voice out opinions, and form catharsis.

It may contain something educational or just pure entertainment. But today's generation, we had it easy. We could just tweet if we were angry, post pictures of the scene we find instagramable, record videos so that the whole world can watch what we saw, and it goes on so that we don't have to write and describe it.

Reading a long text would mean its author has done and exerted a lot of effort in making one piece. It has the elements of a literary work like the plot and characters which makes it complicated than a normal rant tweet. Unlike posts on Facebook or tweets which mostly aim to make them popular as they speak long text is made for people to read and take time digesting each line just to understand the situation. Both do speak for the author feelings but online posts on FB or Twitter would be as simple as talking to someone publicly with barely little to no form of art.

Litterature for the Facebook generation would mean that as long as it creates a new way to spread someone's emotion or talent, the tradition of its original being (long text) should be preserved as the new form of literature is formed.

It provides a new perspective to the way we see life based on these stories and a fresh view to the philosophies it hold. To add, many of these stories have more impact to our lives, than some Facebook posts and tweets, they provide context as to how limitless the creativity of the author in their works, representing their identity in behalf of their nation. The importance of reading literature in our todays society, is to remind of us of our identity, who we are, and the many culture that our country has to offer.

The difference is, novels, short stories, etc. they have a structured world on its own while Tweets could be more of an informal approach to the texts. From the characters, settings, plot etc. the author would build these to catch the eyes of the readers. Facebook or tweets could structure it randomly as long as the context or the idea is in the text. The importance of the literature to the Facebook generation is the manner of their writing, no artistic sense has been put to the text it is more about delivering a message. The new generation became more direct and frontal to their approach on the new media. And this novels, short stories, etc. becomes a mean for us people to look back and learn from them to form new artistic literary piece to express our own emotions.

People in this age are often seen using their phones, checking social media sites such as Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. People who read long texts, I believe, are becoming increasingly rare. We all know that short stories, poems, and novels are used to convey thoughts and feelings, and so are Facebook and Twitter but in a much more modern way, but there is a significant difference, in my opinion, between long texts and these social media. Long texts, such as novels, poems, and short stories, are far more appreciating to read than what is on social media because long texts, such as novels, poems, and short story, are precisely crafted, well-thought-out, well-written, and elicit more emotions when read. Although I have seen some content on Facebook and Twitter where they post some works like poems, which are also good, what you frequently see in these platforms are just sudden thoughts, some are merely expressing their emotions how or whatever they want, but in long texts, I see it as more than just a text, I see it as artworks. Furthermore, long texts may teach you many things, such as how to comprehend things deeply and how to have excellent values.

I believe that the significance of literature in the Facebook generation is that it may be used as a tool to convey meaningful thoughts and sentiments that can inspire anyone and everyone. Use it wisely, carefully, and respectfully so that even if the world keeps changing, we can still see artworks that influence everyone, even if it's not in the old style, but in a modernized one where we can continue to live with well-written books.

Importance of literature

The main difference between this two are what contains them. Short stories or novels contain the author’s emotion and mind. When writing these literary works, authors keep in mind what the reader will/may feel from reading their works, they don’t only think from their perspective but also from the perspective of the readers. It also contains the emotion of the author, whilst reading their works readers will feel what the author intends them to feel. Either happy, sad, angry, scared, or curious, depending on the author’s intention. While the latter, social media posts also contain emotion but it doesn’t come near or even equal the literature works from the past. Unlike literature, authors of the social media posts only upload their posts with the intention of getting famous from it. Not only does the post contain little emotion from the author, some irrelevant words are included within that are out of context from the author’s posts.

Some may disagree with this viewpoint, but based from my experience in social media, these kind of social media posts happen on a day-to-day basis throughout the internet. While sometimes literature authors post an excerpt from their works, it is much more different from what the social media author’s intention. With that in mind, literature works is a great form of art use to express oneself. One factor of this is how the authors build-up their story, making the readers restless on what will happen next on the story. It directs the reader’s attentions towards the book; some even make up theories based upon from what they have read. Theories made by the readers about the characters, the story, and sometimes even the author’s intention from the book. In addition, literary works contain deeper words. Words that contain a deeper meaning than what the readers thought it to be. Some of them are already deep to begin with, but with the author’s ability to manipulate the meaning of it to mean another thing is truly astonishing in itself. Readers often catch the author’s “hidden message” within them, which makes literature even more intriguing.

While the latter, social media posts. Also intends to convey their emotions and thinking. However, unlike literature authors, it’s shallow. Meaning the way they express their emotion is too simple. Although it also expresses the intention of the author to the readers, it doesn’t equate the literature ones. In line with this, social media posts are “too obvious”; readers can easily anticipate the author’s intention for their posts. With its simple format, may it be long or short, with experienced readers, one is able to quickly understand the author’s intention. What makes it predictable is the way social media authors writes them, from the words used to the structure of the sentences, one is able to foresee the ending or the author’s intention. With the way people construct stories nowadays, some use “Slang” words or words that the 21st century often use. These words are often associated with the “gen z” people, although these words are constructed from either shortening or combining two words. They don’t have the same impact as the ones used in literature and they are also grammatically wrong. Rather than teaching the readers to understand the true essence of the word, they are learning grammatically incorrect words that shouldn’t be used in the form of artworks.

With these two in mind, one can say the importance of reading literature in today’s time. When a reader properly reads and understands a literature authors’ intentions, this can lead to the reader being curious. The reader’s curiosity can spark the start of them being an avid literature reader, continually reading and learning different authors’ intention, the author’s viewpoint on certain problems, or to feel the true emotions of the author for writing the literature. It can also lead the way for the reader to become an author, fully expressing their emotion through literature art works. Furthermore, literature also teaches the readers of today’s time the words that were frequently used from the past. Words that captivate the readers’ eyes and curiosity, words that contain a deeper meaning from what the eyes meet. From these viewpoints one can conclude that reading literature in the Facebook generation is an essential knowledge for the present and future generation to come.
