The story that I chose was "Italy's Cenerentola Cinderella" which is an Italian fairy tale. This fairy tale originated in Italy and was created in 1634 and written by Giambattista Basile. The author of "Italy's Cenerentola Cinderella" is Gioachino Rossini who was an Italian composer known for his operas, some of his operas included, "The Barber of Seville" which was written in 1816 and also "Cinderella" which was written in 1817. The short story, "Italy's Cenerentola Cinderella" did not have very much information about Gioachino Rossini or Giambattista Bastle, there was easy access to information about him online. This Cinderella story was first performed in Rome in January 1817. Rossini was the author to officially publish the Italian fairy tale, "Italy's Cenerentola Cinderella, but it is based on the 1697 fairy tale "Cinderella" by Charles Perrault. This version of Cinderella was written in 1634, and it is said to be the first version of Cinderella ever recorded in Europe. Basile wrote the version of Cinderella called "The Cinderella Cat" which then later got turned into Rossini's version of Cinderella which is "Italy's Cenerentola Cinderella."

The story "Italy's Cenerentola Cinderella" is an opera by Rossini that is based upon the fairy tale Cinderella. This Cinderella story told by Rossini greatly differs from the Cinderella story that we are told through Disney productions and the Cinderella story told by the Grimm Brothers. A few main differences between Rossini's Cinderella story and the Cinderella story told by the Grimm Brothers are that there is no evil stepmother in Rossini's version, but in the version that is written by the Grimm brothers, there is an evil stepmother who doesn't allow Cinderella to go to the ball, or to have any nice items. Another difference that is shown between these two is that in Rossini's there is no big ball dance where they are fighting to go and to be the one to dance with the prince, whereas in the Grimm Brothers version, the ball decides that Cinderella is the one for the prince. Lastly, in the Grimm Brothers version of this, there is a slipper that gets left behind, and in the version that is written by Rossini, Cinderella gives the valet a bracelet telling him that if he loves her, he will come find her. Although this is the same story/topic, there are different ways that different lessons are portrayed throughout this story.

To quickly and efficiently summarize the story of Cinderella written by Rossini based upon the version written by Basile, it would be, the story of a young girl who is forced to serve as a maid/servant in her own home. Her family is rude and arrogant, and they treat her as if she is not part of the family, but the family's servant. Then, an old philosopher comes along the way, and she ends up winning his heart. So, the version by Rossini was originally written as a play, and some of the main concepts from Disney's Cinderella or even the Grimm Brother's Cinderella were not included.

There are many similarities between the Grimm Brothers version of Cinderella and Italy's Cenerentola Cinderella because ultimately, they are both telling the story of Cinderella. One similarity that is heavily portrayed between both of these texts, is the idea of abuse and hardship. We can see this theme shown through the texts in multiple ways, but commonly we see it coming from Cinderella being mistreated by her stepmother and stepsisters. She is forced to do all of the household chores and is treated like she is a servant in her own home. Another similarity that we can pick out from these two texts is the happy ending, which is shown because in both of the stories, although in different ways, Cinderella is found riding off with the prince, and they are told to live happily ever after. We can notice this to be a commonality within these stories because of the idea of sending them on a good note to leave the viewer/reader on the happy side.

Although this story portrays many cultural differences, some examples stand out more than others. The first thing that stood out to me while I was reading the text was some of the names used. One of the names is the name of the princess. She starts off the story being named Zezolla and then over time in the story, her name changes and she becomes Cinderella. Zezolla was a name that I had never heard before, so I decided to do some research on the name, come to find out, the name Zezolla has Italian routes and comes from the Italian Fairy Tale "The Cat Cinderella". Seeing this, made me realize the differences between cultural names and also made me realize how many versions of Cinderella there are. I was curious about this name, the meaning of it, so, I did some more research on the web, it says, "The Italian name Zezolla is derived from the Italian word "Zolla", which means "earth" or "ground." The name evokes eagerness, fervour, and lovingness. I found all of this new information very interesting because I had never heard a name like this before, I also found it interesting because they changed her name, or what they referred to her as, in the middle of the story. She starts off being named Zezolla and then her name changes and she is now called Cinderella.

There are multiple lessons that we can take from the story of Cinderella; it just depends on how you perceive it. One lesson that we can take from Cinderella that is commonly perceived by readers and viewers is that kindness and resiliency is rewarded and cruelty and rudeness is not. We can see this theme portrayed throughout Cinderella because the stepsisters are rude to Cinderella, but in a way, they get what they gave out and like at the end of the Grimm brother's version of Cinderella, they get their eyes peck out by birds. So, this shows that when you are rude and arrogant, you will receive a punishment, and no good will come to you.

Another lesson that we can take from the fairy tale Cinderella is the idea of the "Golden Rule" on the web, the Golden Rule is said to be, "The Golden Rule is a moral principle that advises treating others as you would want to be treated by them. It emphasizes reciprocity and a caring attitude. In essence, it means treating others only as you consent to being treated in the same situation." This is shown throughout Cinderella because the stepsisters are rude to Cinderella, but at the end of the story, bad things happen to them, like they don't get to be with the prince.

A third and final theme that I took from the Cinderella stories that we read was the idea that good triumphs over evil. The idea of good winning over evil is described on the web as "The phrase "good triumphs over evil" means that good will ultimately win over evil. It is often used to describe the outcome of a story or event where the good characters or forces are victorious over the evil ones. The concept of good and evil is often associated with morality and ethics, and the phrase is often used to convey a sense of hope and optimism that good will ultimately prevail." We can see this idea portrayed throughout the book because Cinderella remains a good person and then at the end of the story, she ends up being with the prince, so everything works out for her.

I think that the Grimm brother's version of Cinderella is apparent in what the lesson is and what the ideas behind the story are, while in Italy's Cenerentola Cinderella, they use some names that have Italian routes which are more difficult to understand.
