Please post a tile that gives a "first draft" version of a transfer goal within your subject area you might have for your own UbD. Please accompany it with a rationale for why this transfer goal is meaningful for you. Don't suffer from analysis paralysis here - you're just brainstorming. For the last three groups, please comment on a goal that someone has already posted if you have any time left over.

The transfer goal is to ensure that students are able to communicate with native speakers. At the end of the day, speaking with perfect grammar or using the best word choice won't help a student in travel or in communication with a native speaker. As long as a student can negotiate meaning, he/she is set.

The transfer goal is to analyze and ask questions to better understand real world issues and events based on evidence. This is meaningful for us because in a more connected world it's essential to have a good understanding of real world events that occur on a global scale.

Creative (and critical) thinking allows a chance for the students to think about why they are doing what they're doing. Creating a habit where each objective becomes obvious during each lesson will make students want to learn more; making the material relatable, and something that students know they can make relevant to their lives later, will help keep them engaged. Being goal oriented and constantly reminding them that there is an end goal to reach makes them want to attain it (especially if it's not a grade-related goal).

Short term planning vs long term goals are an important aspect of teaching. Also allowing for creative thinking within the class can go a long way. You can be a rockstar teacher, but if your students don't know what the goal of the class is, they may not be aware of the big picture. If the students can't think creatively, then they won't be able to apply the big picture and fully comprehend what they are learning and why.
