1."The Portrait of Lady" is a novel written by Henry James. The main idea of the novel is that everybody has different aims on each thing in the world. I was upset after reading the novel because it shows the reality of our world and a lot of people use others for their own purposes.
2. The Apple Cart
The main idea is that monarchy and democracy are the ideal which has never been realised. My favourite character is King Magnus because of his methods to win and, finally, he had achieved it.

1. "Brave New World" by Aldous Huxley
An important idea throughout is stability; how to maintain happiness for the majority and keep elements away from the mainstream because control of individuals begins at birth.
As for my impression after reading this novel is rather controversial.

For example, babies are grown or farmed in huge numbers and brainwashed from a very early age. The author also wants to tell readers to enjoy nature, appreciate our inner emotional energies and form lasting, wholesome partnerships.

2. "John Bull's Other Island" by George Bernard Shaw
The main idea of “John Bull's Other Island” consists in showing to readers one of the most painful issues of English and Irish socio-political life. Irish patriots courageously but unsuccessfully tried to win independence, while England became the first industrial power in the world. Shaw's play fell into the ever-heated atmosphere of Anglo-Irish relations.
As for my impression after reading this play is rather controversial, difficult for reading and interesting because it is always interesting to learn more about history of one or another country and difficult at the same time because it is full of huge amount of events.

1. "1984" written by by George Orwell. The main idea of the novel is a chilling warning against totalitarianism, a warning after years of brooding on the twin menaces of Nazism and Stalinism.
It seemed to me to be a very frightening. Orwell's description of society evokes a sense of insecurity and hopelessness.
2. Heartbreak House is a play in three acts written by George Bernard Shaw. The main idea is a pretty cynical view of England and its inhabitants in the early twentieth century in this play. One of the distinctive features of Heartbreak House is that it approaches a twentieth-century vision of the holocaust/abyss and revolution via analysis which reflects the cultural codes and conventions of fashionable London before the first world war.
I don't sympathize with any of the characters in this play. All of them, in one way or another, disgust me. Each of the main characters is a hypocrite. However, I would single out Ellie. This character is sympathetic at the beginning of the play, but by the end of the play, we realize that she is much more calculating than she seems.

1.`The Jungle Book` by Rudyard Kipling. The novel teaches us kindness, support, mercy and that we do not have any social boarders. All creatures deserve life and being loved. It impressed me cause there are a lot of ideas in this book like different laws which we still need and we should follow.
2.`Caesar and Cleopatra` by Bernard Shaw. This play is a little bit sarcastic, Shaw laughed at the British aristocracy of the victoian era. He also showed Caesar as a very brave, wisdom imperor and so we can see the political ideas Bernard Shaw supported.
My favourite character in this play is Caesar, because he`s really shown as a very brave and clever man who thought firsly about his government.

1) Novel- "The Time Machine" by H. G. Wells
Main idea- He popularized the concept of time travel by using a vehicle or device to travel purposely and selectively forward or backward through time.
My impression after reading- This work made me think about time frames and the travelling through the time.

2) Play-"Pygmalion" by G. B. Show.
Main idea-The play is a humane comedy about love and the English class system. The author showed us how unequal people were in those society.
My favourite character is Eliza Doolittle because of her hard work that she had made to become a woman from the high society. Unfortunately, she was dismissed by Henry Higgins.

"A Passage to India" by E. M. Forster
The main idea of the story is about relationships between British and Indian people. The author shows us that he didn't like the way Britain ruled India
After reading I felt disappointed because of injustice, because main characters were biased about Indian person. He did nothing bad however he was punished.
"Mrs. Warren's Profession" by G.B. Show
The main idea of the play is that money that was earned dishonestly won't bring you happiness.
My favourite character is Vivie Warren because she was very clever woman and also very honest. She couldn't accept the thing that her mother earned money by such "dirty" way. She prefered to leave her mother and live independently.

"Where angels fear to tread"
This novel was written by Edward Morgan Forster in 1905. This is the story about 30-year-old widow Lilia goes to Italy. The main idea of this novel is women happiness. Lilia understands, that being a widow won’t bring her happy life so she decided to travel to Italy, where she met Gino, young man. They got married and lived happily for some time. After that, Lilia got pregnant and died during birth.
I liked this novel, because here, Lilia felt free to enjoy her life. During reading I though that it was based on real person’s life, because Edward Forster described it very accurate.

“Major Barbara” by Bernard Shaw. The main idea of this play is the conflict between family members. This story is about Barbara Undershaft, an idealistic young woman, who is helped poor people as a Major of Salvation Army. She and her siblings were estranged from their father and suddenly he appeared and helped Salvation Army, which offended Barbara. She didn't want to be connected with her father.
My favorite character is obviously Barbara, because she has strong character, she is wise and caring women. She copes with problems easily and she is very kind.

"Anna of the Five Towns" by Arnold Bennett
The mais idea of the story is the effect of work and industry on personal relationships. In Bennett's novel, this effect becomes devastating --ruining the relationships and lives of important characters.
The author shows us that it is important for him to see the differences and impact of business and industry on the personal life.
After reading I felt disappointed that a nice young lady has to be a powerful head of the huge manufacturing structure. Although she works with a person she likes, it doesn't help her to cope with the problem of being the one who must be involved in the world of such aa business.

"Widower's Houses" by G.B.Shaw
The main idea of the play is about social inequality, gender roles, and burgeoning urbanization in London. Shaw’s three-act play is a tale of romance, but also of the business negotiations of the bourgeoisie.
The author shows us how business can badly reflect on strong and lovely relationships. My favourite character is Dr. Harry Trench, who fell in love with Blanche, the widower's daughter. When he find out the way her father make money, he refuses to take them for their happy life, even getting 700 pounds during a year. Suddenly, Blanche breaks the engagement. Trench is a brave, generous and honest person, so I like these features in the character.
