The librarian will not give him books until instructed to do so by the police. He learns all about science and math and is a very bright kid. In the future, he watches the show Startrek which shows whites and blacks working together. He saw this to be a great thing and thought that it could happen in the future while other people believed it to be science fiction. Ronald was interested by space and he later became an astronaut, and he died in a rocket seconds after it was launched. The rocket exploded and the crew died along with Ronald. He became very close with the two kids and built a very strong relationship with them. The more out going and talkative kid dies in an explosion with his mother. It left a major shockwave between the soilder and the other boy. To this day the soldier remembers the kids like it was yesterday.
