I’ve come to realize a lot of things about myself, which made me reflect on how much potential I have to do even more things and continue growing as a person. The person centered approach allowed me to dissect myself and made me question who I really am, so what I do is sometimes I would just go outside the house, leave my phone, and go to the nearby park to sit on a bench for hours and the only thing I’d do is think. I’ve come to understand that finding the good things day by day allows you to appreciate where you are right now instead of always looking far ahead. However, by understanding myself more, I now think that it is better to show who you really are whenever you are with people who you can let your guard down with.

The System 1 and System 2 thinking allowed me to understand our way of thinking, and it can be affected by the environment or situation we are in. The things we see as habits or regular things we usually do without thinking about it is an example of system 1 whereas when we have to face dilemmas where we need to analyze it is system 2. I have also come to accept that it is okay not to be okay or rather, the feeling of being sad during certain moments is valid and we shouldn’t be ashamed or guilty about it. I have come to understand however that we have the ability to regulate our emotions so long as we can face the fact that challenges in life provide us a means to grow and redefine ourselves even though it can be a rocky process.

I used to think that I was behind at life because other people seemed to figure out what to do with their lives. My grandparents also got married young and built their business around that age. This made me pressured to succeed and have my own business at a young age as well. I realized that we have our own timelines, including me. I’m still figuring myself out, and I will enjoy this part of my life. These came from Erikson’s psychosocial theory, specifically identity vs role confusion, and emerging adulthood.

I learned that my romantic relationship differs from the average Filipino. Usually, a typical Filipino’s romantic partner would be part of the same barkada. Coming from a school for boys, girls were absent in my barkada, thus I made girl friends outside of my school. My girlfriend and I are not in the same barkada. We may have our own barkadas, but our relationship is our own. I think what brings us together is our socioeconomic status, since we are both upper middle class. We talk about the things we have and bond over them, and we both long to have and experience more together. We have the same values, but some are different. My family believes that we should always be on time, and we get mad when others are late. My girlfriend on the other hand has a different concept of time and is chronically late.
