Woman and Enslaved people in Athenians weren't allowed to be called citizens. They had very little power, and weren't allowed in assemblies. Few women had jobs, and sold goods at the market to get some money, but they got very little money. They weren't allowed to get their own land. Few woman had power because they were priestesses. Turns out woman had their greatest. They spent their time doing chores around the house and raising their children. Athien wifes taught their sons until they were 6 - 7 years old, and ready to go to school, but wifes had to educate their daughters until they were 15 and ready to get married; daughters weren't allowed to go to school. That's how much power woman didn't have. Enslaved people too, because they had to follow orders from their masters, and they didn't go to school either. It's pretty sad to think about it, because all the enslaved people learned was only on how to build and take care of things, and you need more in your life than just building stuff for other people.

Athens believed that a good citizens should have a healthy body and an intelligent mind. Education in Athens was a lot different than education in the U.S. In Athens woman or enslaved men would teach the boys until they where the age 6 to 7. Then boys went to school until eh age of 14. In Athens Education was a big thing to they taught subjects such as, reading, writing, math, and literature. Books at the time where rare so the students had to read subjects out loud and memorize everything. Boys also studied music. They learned to sing and play an instrument called a lyre. A lyre is a string instrument and looks like a harp.

The Athenian Economy is excellent. This is because they could trade easily, They had their own coin, Crops were easy to trade, And they traded with other city-states they would trade and exchange goods. Athens later created their very own money system. It was coins and they ranged from gold, silver, and bronze. Also, they have very rich soil so they could grow crops and trade. Also, they could trade for household items like pottery furniture and clay oil lamps. Also, they traded with other countries such as wood from Italy and grain from Egypt. The countries got honey, olive oil, silver, and very luscious paintings The Athenian Economy is excellent. Athens became a democracy in about 500 B.C.E but only free men were allowed to be citizens. Because you have to be a citizen to vote only free men could vote because they were citizens. women and enslaved people were not allowed to vote because they were not allowed citizenship. All men born in Athens who were over 18 were considered citizens. A group called the Council of 500 met every day. Every year citizens over 30 would get chosen to serve on the council. The council ran the daily business of government. Another group was called the Assembly of Athens. They met on a hill called Pnyx every ten days. At least 6,000 citizens needed to be there for a meeting to happen. If not enough people came to a meeting enslaved people armed with ropes dipped in red would be sent out to collect more citizens so citizens who did not come would be embarrassed to be covered in red. The Assembly debated issues and voted on laws that the council proposed. Every citizen was able to vote in an assembly but they were timed. They were proud to be able to be free and vote.

Athens developed strong relationships with other city states. Athens also did their own trade. Athens thrived through trade. Spartans had powerful armies and stole from their neighbors. Spartans enjoyed a simple life.
