It was...the mailman. They had the victorian era amazon prime. The mailman was just delivering a package for the White family. It turns out, that the monkey's paw never granted 3 wishes. It wasn't Herbert that died either. I would put that as the knocking got louder Mr. White panicked even more stumbling to find the paw. But in this version he doesn't get it fast enough. So as he is searching the floor, Mrs. White runs to the door with tears in her face knowing what she is doing is wrong but doesn't care. Then Mr. White finally finds the paw, as he is about to make the wish he looks over to the door full swing open. He dashes over to see a grotesque Herbert at the door. His wife blankly staring, falls over right on her back. Dead from shock and fear. Mr. White sees Herbert still standing at the door. Mr. White with a blank face sits down knowing full well these are the consequences. While the knocking stopped, Mr. and Ms. White could still hear the echoes of them. “Did it work?” Mr. White wondered. Ms. White opened the door slowly, as she peered outside to see if she could spot Herbert anywhere nearby. No one was there. It was all just an empty road.

“You took him away,” muttered Ms. White. “Bring him back,” she whispered. Mr. White stayed silent. “Bring. Him. Back,” she demanded in a furious tone.

“I can’t,” Mr. White said. “I really tried. There’s nothing we can do at all.”

Mr. and Ms. White gazed upon the paw, but they didn’t see magic inside of it. They saw a curse. A curse that gave them two hundred pounds. A curse that made a man wish for death. A curse that took him away. That took Herbert away.

Mr. White, fueling with rage, rushed towards the paw, firmly grabbed it. The paw got hold of Mr. White, but he didn’t care at all. He approached the fireplace, lit a match, started the fire, and threw the paw inside. 

As they watched it burn, they saw the two hundred pounds. They saw the man that wished for death. They saw the fakir, gazing towards them, saying, “Don’t mess with fate.” Lastly, they saw Herbert trying to run to them, pleading that they bring him back. Then, he disappeared. As he left, the house caught fire.

Mr. White managed to escape, but Ms. White stayed. “I want to be with Herbert,” she silently said. As the house burned down, Mr. White saw everything go down in ashes.

When the fire stopped, Mr. White came back. He saw no pictures of Herbert or his wife. He saw no two hundred pounds. He saw none of his top hats. Everything was gone. Everything, but the paw.

Then Suddenly they hear a faint Knock "knock..." then Mr. and Mrs.White wondered if it was herbert and they got nervous debating in there head whether to open the door or stay silent. Then the knocking stopped... Then the mom runs to the door and opens it and then they seen.... They seen Hebert and he had 1000$. The mom was happy the dad was in shock did the monkey paw give him good luck? But then at that second herbert falls to the ground and the 1000$ burns to ashes along with herbert. There is a slight gust of wind and the ashes spelled out you shall no longer be gifted in this world an the house burned.
