This piece or art that I chose to talk about is called Festival by Daniel Celentano, an Italian American from the Uptown neighborhood called Italian Harlem. I chose this piece of art to represent the 1934's and the great depression because like its called the great depression most Americans back then either had no job lost their money in the stocks or had family members who had died in the war, and so the Italians as they are drawn in this art they were trying to take out some of the stress and depression away by having a regular festival to seek to get everyone back on track.

While reading the article "1934: The Art of the New Deal" I found that it is interesting that the government had spent so much time and money on paintings thinking to myself I am just wondering what were they thinking like was this going to make things better for people or how was this suppose to help. If the government would have paid more attention in the infrastructure America would have been more advanced than any other country back then with all that money that was spent on paintings, etc. a total of $1,184,000 in 1934 money it was huge. I just think that whoever was in power and decided to use the money for the paintings and such was depressed him or herself and that I agree that money could have been used for much more reason such as feeding people or even building technology and science.

The piece of art I chose is called Lumber Industry by William Arthur Cooper. Cooper was born in Hillsboro, North Carolina. This piece shows a Tennessee sawmill that would produce raw tree trunks for building. While it looks like a thriving mill, the events of the Great Depression halted building leaving mills like this one closed and those who ran them without a means to make ends meat. I chose this piece because the Great Depression halted many businesses work and left many Americans without a way to make money for their families.

I agree that the money that the government used to pay the 3,749 artist they hired should've been used to pay for items that would help the country as a whole. All the while that the government was providing jobs for these artists, they were not providing jobs for the millions of laborers, farmers and business men that were put out of work due to the great depression. The government spent $1,184,000 on paintings that were created by these hired artists. That is a lot of money now, can you imagine how much all that money was worth back during the Great Depression? Where was the aid in helping laborers find jobs, or helping farmers protect their crop. Spending money of material possessions is not what was needed at that time. That $1,184,000 could've helped bail many people out of poverty by filtering it back into the economy and could've contributed to ending the Great Depression much sooner.

The piece of art that I chose is called In the Barber Shop by Ilya Bolotowsky. I chose this piece because it shows how life was during the New Deal. After the Great Depression, life seemed to kind of go back to normal and it seemed as though it did not even happen. All of the colors in this picture show that life was good again. I like how there are people of all different ethnicities getting along in this piece of art.

I agree that there is no reason that tax payer money should have been spent on things like art and music. This is because American Yawp states that the New Deal was created to fix the crisis in America. I do not think that things like music and art are what money needs to be spent on during a crisis. The money needs to go towards more important things like food and economic stimulus. Money spent on music and art are only helping a small amount of people, but they should spend that money and things that would help the whole society. In one year $1,184,000 was spent on paintings. I think that is way too much money to be spending on one thing and it needs to be more spread out among people.
