Since religious practice declined for lack of freis, civil authorities began to order the Convent of San Francisco for various purposes. After that it functioned as an elementary school and infirmary to attend the victims of the constant epidemics that devastated the city in the middle of the century XIX.
Como a prática religiosa declinou por falta de liberdade, as autoridades civis começaram a encomendar o convento de São Francisco para diversos fins.
