Rosa Parks ignited the protest by being arrested after refusing to give up her seat on a bus to a white man. The protest was effective as black people made up 75% of riders, and the discriminatory law was removed.

Malcolm’s positions on black freedom were seen as controversial, as he focused on black people creating their own power, structure, and wealth. He also believed strongly in the idea of self-defense as an alternative to nonviolent resistance.

There was a break-in at the Democratic National Committee (DNC) headquarters in the Watergate complex that Nixion denied involvement with, however, it's said that he paid the burglars hush money.
