They were loads of people on the side-walks and they were between them, waiting for the cars that would pass with Franz Ferdinand. Although the first assassinator had a panic attack, the second one, Nedeljko Čabrinović, was able to throw his bomb. This bomb didn't hit the target but,  a driver and few spectators, leaving them with injured.

Čabrinović swallowed his cyanide and jumped into the River Miljacka behind. The poison was so old that it didn't work and to help that, the river only came up to this ankles. As he failed, we was arrested and attacked by several bystanders.

Meanwhile, Princip, witnessing the failure of the mission, traipsed to a local inn. 

The archduke was not impressed and, when he arrived at the City Hall, as it was planned, he complained to the city mayor, saying "Mr Mayor, I come to Sarajevo on a visit, and I get bombs thrown at me. It is outrageous." ending with the following words "I see in [the people of Sarajevo] an expression of joy at the failure of the attempt at assassination."

Later, Franz Ferdinand went to the hospital to visit the injured lying there. When he left, his chauffeur who was unfamiliar with this part of the city, turned down a one-way street. On realizing his mistake, the chauffeur tried to reverse but it was too late! 

He tried to go back on route but, the driver had to stop due to the car next to the tavern, where Princip was.

As Princip saw the royal car just in front of him, he took his gun and leapt onto the running board of Ferdinand's car and fired. The first bullet killed the countess instantaneously. The archduke, crying, said some oh his last words "Sophie, don’t die' stay alive for the children". Right after, we was the next victim, when the second bullet caught him in the throat. 

While rushing to Sarajevo's governor residence, a member of his retinue asked him if he was in great pain, to which Ferdinand insisted "It is nothing" until his last breath.
