I sketched this drawing before putting it on the final paper. There is a sense of movement as the colors are going around in a circle mimicking the shell of a snail. Each color was spaced out evenly which created balance throughout the composition. I began creating this piece by focusing on a portion of a real life set up of bottles. I was able to convey texture by using value when shading each bottle. I specially made sure that I used a variety of bottles to fill up the space on the paper and to bring the whole piece together. I started off by creating a rough draft and using my middle name to fill up the page. With the extra space between the letters, I was able to use lines to form designs that brought the whole piece together. When looking at this piece, it makes me happy with all the different bright colors. With this piece, theres a lack of variety in color and shapes, as its in black and white and mostly squares. Instead of using different colors, I used value to create texture and pattern. When looking at this, I feel a sense of home. Next, it was time to paint, where I used a complimentary color scheme by using one color and its compliment. By doing this, it allowed for the composition to have a sense of unity and seemed to be very abstract to me. I used clay to form a usable pot and shaped it with my hands. It was a very soft texture until it was fired and put in heat, where it then hardened. I tried to make it look like a frog but the eyes fell off. I used clay to form the legs of the frog and the side and a scraper tool to create a pattern which was meant to mimic the skin of a frog. To begin with, I had sketched my focal point, the owl onto the paper. I then had to cut out paper in squares which had the color I needed and arrange them to form the the shape and background I wanted. Each of the squares I cut out and placed on the paper had to be spaced out evenly to create a balanced composition. By using pencil, I was able to create value to bring a sense of unity and contrast within the composition. After creating this artwork, I learned that not everyone has a completely proportional face as another may be. Although, the focal points, being the facial features, usually do end up being around the same distance away.
