No photo was taken as I mostly just watched and observed consultations. I learnt however that breeds such as poodles are more prone to Paterllar luxation, a condition where the kneecap can slip out of place, and that there are different degrees of severity.

Today I watched over a surgery conducted on a big dog. They removed the mammary glands in the dog as there was a mass found, but they had to remove a whole section of the nipples because the mammary glands are all connected. It was interesting to see the surgical process and the preperation that took place.

They put in a dye and turn off the lights in the room and flash a light into the eye.

This is a poster that was in the consultation room of a chart explaining healthy weights for dogs.

Today a dog came in because the owner realised the dogs paw was red and swollen. Turns out a grass seed was stuck in the dogs paw and this is common for dogs with lots of fur around their paw. They ended up having to put the dog under sedation and had to shave around the area to try and find where the grass seed was. They cut a little slit into the paw to try and find it, which can be very tedious at times.

I watched consultations today. This is just a poster informing about common places for heartworm.

Heartworm is a parasite that is spread from host to host through the bites of mosquitoes. To prevent this, the veterinarian can prescribe monthly pills, otpical liquids, or just get them an injection. under the skin every 6 or 12 months. I also sat in the office with the vets during administration time and learnt that they catch up on notes they may have missed or take this time to refresh up on certain diseases
