"I just want to sleep. The whole point of not talking about it, of silencing the memory, is to make it go away. It won't . I'll need brain surgery to cut it out of my head."
In this part of the book Melinda was with David Petrakis doing the frog lab. Melinda passes out thinking about the party. She doesn't want to think about the party so she says i'll need brain surgery to cut the party memory out of her head. For a reminder she called the cops during a party, and one of the girls at the party's brother got arrested and lost his job. And it all just got out of hand. I think its important because she was getting yelled at for calling the cops in the beginning of the book and then during a lab and comes back to her and doesn't want to think about it.

"The Constitution does not recognize different classes of citizenship based on time spent living in the country. I am a citizen, with the same rights as your son, or you. As a citizen, and as a student, I am protesting the tone of this lesson as racist, intolerant, and xenophobic." This is important because David is telling Mr. Neck that he doesn't like what he said at all, kinda saying its disrespectful to the immigrants that have moved here. He is preferring Mr. Neck racist, intolerant, xenophobic. In my opinion it is disrespect to the immigrants that has moved to the United States because Mr. Neck is saying the people that lived here since the american revolution should get jobs first before all the immigrants in the United States of America.

"It is easier not to say anything. Shut your trap, button your lip, can it. All that crap you hear on TV about communication and expressing feelings is a lie. Nobody really wants to hear what you have to say." This right here is sarcasm. Sarcasm is the use of irony to mock or convey contempt. This shows how Melinda feels right now with how on TV it shows how products or other things will make you happy if you are down and they are trying to make you get it that is the sarcasm in this quote. She is feeling down in this quote and says television is going to help with making her happy.

"He says a million things without saying a word. I make a note to study David Petrakis. I have never heard a more eloquent silence." This is Melinda saying David Petrakis says a lot of words without saying anything which was amazing to her and because of that she said that David was her hero. This is important because David is going against something he doesn't believe was right what Mr. Neck said and you should be able to stand up and talk like that with your own right if someone says something you think is ridiculous .
