1. When you protect the electrics, you prevent the likelihood of a house setting on fire, which may help if that house is one of the last ones standing, as people would need shelter during the day and the night.
2. If you give the staff of the Commercial Centre evacuation training, there will be a bigger chance of more people surviving as they have been trained to get through it.
3. If you set up a local alarm system and a radio system, more people have a chance of surviving because they will have been notified about the coming earthquake.
4. If you secure the fittings of a house, people will be less likely to be hurt because the fittings are not falling on the in the duration of the earthquake.

Ava
A strategy to reduce impacts of an earthquake is to further protect your house and buildings. Ways you could do this is to protect electrics by turning the power switches off and making sure they’re e.g rubber protected. This would prevent electric shocks. Another way is to nail heavy items to the wall such as cabinets, bookshelves and wardrobes this would prevent them falling onto people and them getting stuck underneath which would result in more deaths. Another way to reduce impacts of earthquakes is to evacuate the people early. By doing this it lowers the death rate and creates a safer environment for the people. If people evacuate there will be more room in hospitals and larger food supply for those who couldn’t leave. Also preparing in advance is another way to reduce the impact of an earthquake. Making sure you have a big selection of bright torches, multiple batteries and fully charged power banks, water, canned food or foods with long expiry dates, emergency or first aid kits and to have safe documents such as your passport and legal documents with you.

Reinforcing buildings can help reduce negative impacts of an earthquake because the building is less likely to collapse if it has been reinforced with stronger materials such as metal and concrete. Another strategy that can be used during earthquakes is to attach loose items to strong walls with hooks, this prevents heavy objects falling which could be fatal if it fell on someone.

One strategy we should use to reduce the impacts of an earthquake is to make sure to secure heavy items such as cabinets or televisions directly to the wall by anchoring them to keep them from falling on you or others. Another way we can reduce the impact of earthquakes is to check if your house needs retrofitting. Generally, if your is house is older than 25 years, its foundations may not be the most secure, so you need to make sure that they are stable enough to survive an earthquake, and to do this, you may need to retrofit your house entirely or partly.

Retrofit the building- It will improve the resiliance of the buildings so that if an earthquake hits it will prevent movement from the concrete base of the building. This protects the structure from damage and falling objects and makes it safer for people to take shelter in if they cant go out of their houses in time.
Protect the electrics- It will lower the risk of fires and electrocution, power surges and voltage spikes that can occur during an earthquake and this could potentially injure a person more.

This can include organizing neighborhood earthquake drills, creating community emergency response teams, and providing training on first aid and search and rescue.

Infrastructure upgrades: Upgrading critical infrastructure, such as bridges, tunnels, and water supply systems, can help ensure that these systems can withstand earthquakes and continue to function in their aftermath.

Insurance and financial planning: Having earthquake insurance and developing financial plans for earthquake emergencies can help individuals and businesses recover more quickly from earthquake damage.

Green infrastructure: Green infrastructure, such as parks and open spaces, can provide natural buffers that help reduce the impacts of earthquakes. This can include creating green belts that absorb earthquake shock waves, or using wetlands to help prevent soil liquefaction.

International cooperation: International cooperation can help promote the sharing of best practices, technologies, and resources for earthquake preparedness and response.
To stay safe and reduce danger from occurring during an earthquake, you should always assure that you have a safety bag with you with money, food water etc. You could also stay under something sturdy, this loose things from falling on top of you. Most importantly you must be on a high surface for preventing injuries and this also reduces the amount of shaking happening.-mariam albuz
