This technology grant has truly changed our teaching in a very functional and permanent way. One of the most practical influences has been on the timing and pacing of our mornings. Each day we aren't wasting time training or readjusting Dragon. We're not having to explicitly teach students how to use Kurzweil and then make sure they know how to keep WordQ or other programs open and functional while they go into Microsoft Word, create a new document and then begin typing. This frees up so much time EACH day! This time is now spent on structuring and organizing their writing. When the students can voice type and get their thoughts down in a efficient manner, that matches their cognitive ability, rather than just their ability to work through the laboured encoding process, then they get excited and motivated to hone their writing skills! Once they experiment and see how effortless and productive the assistive technology is then they're always keen and happy to use it and it becomes second nature to reach for a chrome book rather than a pencil.

Thank you so much for this opportunity,
Angela Moslinger, Jody Conod and Melissa Michaud
District LD Support Program Teachers,
LDSB

Voiced Typed Submission from grade 5 student in response to the question: How do the Chrome Books help you?

The Chromebooks help me at school because I can use voice typing and I can also use the correcting tools so if I have a word that is wrong it will correct it for me. So if we only have a certain amount of time I can get it done quicker and it's a lot easier for me because when I write with paper pencil I take a long time to write and if I don't take a long time then you can't read it. And I am a lot more Happier with my work on the Chromebook then with my work with paper pencil. And when I do it on the Chromebook it helps me When I go to do it with paper pencil I can spell the words better. and it's And it's more fun to do it on a Chromebook then to do it with paper pencil. and I can get a lot more work done on the Chromebook so I got to better work on it then with paper pencil so that really helps to. And even if I want to type it is also so much faster then doing it with paper pencil.

*please note this was a timed 5 minute assignment and I did not help him with conventions or sentence structure.
