The students can still work together with the people next to them if they need to but won't be distracted so much by people behind them or diagonal to them because they only have people next to them. My fifth grade classroom was set up like this and it was very efficient. For the desks, I want the desks that have a small compartment under them for the student's materials and to keep their desktops clean.
