  •  Mona used her fathers words and advice from her police friends to help guide her into what she becomes. Mona's dad tells her and her sisters “gangs only promise shame and danger for a young girl”-pg.27 He says that they are lazy and bad influences.

  • Throughout the story Mona goes through a lot and makes many bad decisions that lead to consequences that impact her life. In chapter 8 Mona talks about how she has to go back to school since she didn't get her credits earlier in her school and because of that it affected her causing her to go back.

  •  In the book, the gangs get involved in many problems and do drugs, party and around people that make bad decisions. and with Mona being a part of that is bad and impacts her life negatively. Mona goes through domestic abuse in chapters 8-10 and further on caused by her husband who makes bad choices.
