Living conditions for these poor children were horrid. They worked for about 1 shilling for working 14 hour shifts. That's a little over nothing which is the worst part. They were tired and helpless for their efforts. They were forced to work the long shifts each and every day. Labor was also very poorly maintained because the work space was crammed, machines had no protection against anything, and they needed to be cleaned every now and then.

The Roaring Twenties was a magical time for lots of people. It was exciting! It brought a lot to the table. More than 51% of Americans lived in cities now rather than villages or farms. Cities have been growing extremely fast. Some may say it was the decade of economic explosion. Money was more easily accessible from jobs. About 50% more money from them. In 1912, only 16% of Americans had electricity. By the mid-1920's almost two thirds did have it. Technology enhanced by allowing more people to have vacuum cleaners, lawnmowers, and electric washers and dryers. The film industry had exceeded expectations because by the mid-1920's, movie theaters were selling more than 50 million tickets each and every week. There was lots of economic change in the 1920's which was great for the people.

The Roaring 20's Article:

A Captain of Industry is a business leader that uses his/her fortune to positively contribute to an area. Some ways that they have done this is by increasing productivity in the area, providing more jobs, expanding markets, or other acts of philanthropy. Henry Ford is a Captain or Industry because he drastically increased the pay of his workers to about $5.00 rather than other manufactures that pay way less. He thought that they would be happy and more efficient than if they had been paid less.
