-students in Nashville Tennessee (sponsored by Core) went on freedom rides in 1961 to visit their mothers on mothers Day. However, they were met with a lot of violence from the Klansmen when they reached Alabama but they still managed to persevere until they reached New Orleans.
-they tried again with a different group of students on May 20 from Nashville to Montgomery with police escorts but were unfortunately still beaten by the KKK when they arrived.
-although these events were met with brutality,  they still conducted about 60 more freedom rides between may and june
