Each sentence should be complete, meaning;

1. Planned out on your helper hand. DO NOT LET THEM SKIP THIS VITAL STEP. The kids like to try to skip it and they loose meaning often without it.

2. "Calling the COPS" (Capitalization, Organization, Punctuation, Spelling and Spacing).

3. Use your helper hand to help you plan and spell. Another vital step!

*Parents- Let your child show you how they use their hand to plan a sentence (order the words to write) this is tough for a lot of our students because it requires a lot of executive functioning skills, be patient. Writing on Tuesdays often takes us a while. It is ok. LOADS of learning happens here.

For spelling we encourage the kids to use their helper hand as well, to order the sounds they hear in the words. I would not expect the kids to be able to correctly spell words like "ice," but would expect them to sound out simple words that have short vowel sounds like "run," We do help them with words they would not know. IF, a child were to ask me how to spell "ice," I would work through it with them, "What do you hear?" I would talk with them about the i saying it's name and the c making the s sound, as I wrote it on a post it note.

PLEASE talk with them about the words, don't just write it for them to copy.

Please emphasize that ice skating in Kentucky can ONLY be done on special rinks.

Up north, where the ice can be thick and hold weight is the only time people can be out on what is usually water.

For example, if I have 2 nickels, I would could count 5 for the first nickel and then 10 for the second.

Cut and paste the correct numbers to the snowman next to each set of nickels. Touch each nickel as you count by 5.

Read all the sentences aloud to an adult when finished.
