I never figured out exactly why or what I did, but this English teacher was disgusted by my presence; she seemed to love humiliating me and found joy in making me miserable. I was changed after her class. From fear of anyone else seeing the bad in me this teacher had, I stopped talking, stopped volunteering, stopped doing anything that would attract any attention from my teachers. I had the opportunity to become a substitute in a PMD/TMD classroom. I fell in love with the students and how I was able to connect with them. I enrolled in Coker College the following semester and the rest is history. I became a teacher because I got a coaching job. My HS guidance counselor told me I should be a teacher, but I didn't really like the idea of being a teacher at that time.
