This is a 1172 mile pipeline that would connect oil riches through North Dakota- South Dakota- Iowa-Illinois. This is called the Dakota Access Pipeline, also known as, Bakken Oil Pipeline. When this was approved, that allowed the oil company to dig the pipeline under the Missouri River.

This is taking over a lot of ground as a whole. But also,is covering many sacred grounds , spiritually. Which people are not fond of what so ever. People take religion very highly and people do not want that right to be so easily taken away from them. As well as the fear that this new pipeline will effect drinking water and contaminate it. Eventually ,The Standing Rock Sioux Tribe filed a lawsuit on July 27, 2016, against the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for violating the National Historic Preservation Act and other laws.

Challenges & Opportunities that comes with social media?

The challenge that will come about with social media is the spread of videos and pictures. Like the video our class watched, it shows people letting loose dogs on the protesters. One guy was bit by the dog and left a mark. People are being tackled and yelled at, in general, no one is caring about their well being. People will share these for the rest of the world to see. Then people will choose the protesters sided because of how they are being treated and then you will have no support on the pipeline. BUT you can also use social media as a way to spread news on the pipeline. What it is for and have people excited for this new coming project. Also you could give weekly or daily updates on the progress so people dont have to worry.

Dakota Pipeline should not have been made. It caused many people of the Sioux Tribe and the youth group, Rezpect our water and also the people of the 4 states it affected. o feel emotionally hurt. Lands were taken away and being transformed. The standing Rock Sioux Land was built over which made many controversies. The government has said that they have not built over it but the fact that people feel threatened , makes it so real and such a big issue. And because of that reason i believe this should not have been built.
