They could have done this to try to be friendly to others, but since they killed some of their tribe on accident they got mad. (or another reason, or no reason!) And then made sure croatoan wasn’t marked with a X, so there is no sign of hostility, even though the fort and remainders were already gone. Then with them having no trace of hostility, so others would come! Why is it better better? Because it has everything in it, like the croatoan sign, the no fort, and everything missing. They all work with this theory!
