Inspiration for my composition

For my composition I had numerous inspirations. Firstly I had yiruma. Yiruma is a south Korean pianist and a composer. He frequently performs at sold-out concerts in Asia, Europe and North America. The king's college, London helped him gain European popularity and recognition. His most popular pieces are "River Flows in You", "Love Hurts", "Kiss the Rain", and "May Be". Yiruma's most popular album, first love was released in 2001. He began playing the piano at the age of five and moved to london when he was 10, in 1988, to study at the Purcell School of music. I found this very inspiring as this he has started his career at a very young age and already started with his passion and was actively trying to improve. I find his genre very interesting as he is a composer and I find the way he plays very inspiring and intriguing to watch. The expression and the passion shown through each performance is what I find most inspiring.
I also found Jon Schmidt a big inspiration. Schmidt is an American pianist, composer, piano teacher, and author. Classically trained, he branched into new age in his 20s and has a developed classical crossover style that blends classical, contemporary, and rock and roll. He is a member of the piano guys and works to create interesting complex songs. I find him a big inspiration because of the genre of the music, I like the style he has an I try to recreate these sounds often when practicing. I like to listen to how he has developed the music to work with what is currently popular however it still has a classical edge to it.

My composition is a mixture of semi improvisation and inspiration from my previous piano pieces I have worked on. My composition has elements of classical music however it is build upon very basic chords. I have spend a long time working out which chords would work nicely together and with this I can then work out how to essentially explode these chords and make them become a very complex and interesting sounding piece however still be based on simple chords. I have also used elements of jazz and waltz songs. I have done this as I have previously played with these styles and I feel a mixture of these work very well together. It is almost as if it is a mash-up of these three genres. I like the fact that it is possible to take something very simple and convert it into a complex exploded song, with elements of jazz, classical and waltz.
I think I have successfully created a song which works well and is interesting as it has elements of different genres. I have managed to explode very simple chords (C, G, Em, Bm, Am, D and Dm) I have enjoyed working on my composition and using my inspirational artists as a lever to developing my composition.
I think I could improve my composition by making it last a little bit longer, I could also have structured it a little bit better by using more dynamics and creating an A section and a B section,
Overall I think I have composed a successful complex composition however i could improve by adding dynamics and ranges of notes instead of limiting to the middle area of the piano.

Appealing to a wider audience and communicating with the listener (WWW and EBI)

I think I have successfully appealed to a good audience and communicated a message to the listener. The song does not have many dynamics which is something I will need to work on, however it has clear melody and a simple rhythm. My target audience would potentially be people who enjoy listening to classical, Jazz and waltz music however also enjoy pop, as there are rhythms which have a very western pop music feel to them. My target audience may also be people who enjoy listening to expressive music as it is a very expressive piece and conveys a rather sad unhappy message. I have singularly used a piano for my instrument in this composition as it is my main instrument and I feel I am most expressive when playing the piano. I think my song would be even better if I have tried to perhaps reach a wider audience. I could try to target teenagers and young adults for my music. This would be a good idea as they are the people who are mostly listening to music and they would be able to give feedback. I think I could expand my target range by perhaps changing the genre slightly by adding a drum machine. This would therefore add beats to my composition making the song a more western pop song however it would attract teenagers and young adults to listen. The jazz elements of the song should be interesting to add beats too.
If I was to compose another song or edit my current one, I would consider the target audience and include a beat and one simple rhythm to keep the timing and the tempo to a steady pace.
