SAMPLE RESPONSE: Explain the difference between the Patriots and the Loyalists.

There is a big difference between patriots and loyalists. Patriots are people who wanted American to be free. Loyalists are people who wanted to remain loyal to England and King George. I think that the Loyalists were just cowards who were afraid to fight. This story was very interesting in my opinion.

There was NO text evidence or analysis. Also, the author spelt America wrong. It was confusing for all of us to read. The author also included his/her opinion at the end of his/her response. This response didn't use domain specific vocabulary except for Patriots and Loyalists. It did answer the question but was a off topic at the end. The response is not organized, which makes it a little bit confusing.
We agreed to give it a 1.

This response is a 2 because it doesn't have any text support and only said that they understood the story , but didn't show it. Also, the only evidence is that they say that Patriots wanted to be a free country and Loyalists kept there word. Last, they didn't explain why some of the settlers became Patriots.

We would give this response a 2 because there was no text evidence nor was there analysis. The response also went off topic because the question never asked for the writer's opinion. The response uses some domain specific vocabulary, but we think the response is somewhat confusing. The response demonstrates some organization with somewhat coherent writing. The writer said the Loyalists were cowards, though the response never asked for an opinion about the Loyalists.

In our opinion we would give it a 2 because it doesn't have text evidence proving that the Loyalists were cowards and were afraid to fight. Also, the author does not make his/her idea clarified or understandable, the author does not include an analysis. Also, it's kind of off topic because it didn't ask for the opinion it asked for the difference between the Patriots and The Loyalist.

We believe the response is a 2. We think this because it answer the question but not all parts. Also it contains little to no text evidence. The response also goes off topic after saying one difference between the patriots and the loyalist and the author could have use domain specific vocabulary. The author also includes no analysis in the answer. Lastly the author only included one difference and had a grammar mistake.

This response was a 1 in our opinion. This paragraph has no text evidence whatsoever. They made their point, but they didn't explain it. And, do you think we care about what you think, whether the story was interesting or not? The question didn't ask for your opinion. They're just telling their topic sentence, but they have NO analysis. Their analysis is calling loyalists cowards. Again, no one asked you for your opinion. This author also, we think, meant "...wanted Americans" or "...wanted America" to be free. This is clearly a spelling error.

This response is a 1 because there is no text evidence or analysis. The author could have added domain specific vocabulary, but didn't. The author did state some differences, but they were not explained. At the second to last sentence, it did't explain the differences about the Loyalists and Patriots. We also noticed that a spelling mistake was with the sentence with the word "American." We think it should have meant "Americans."
