Vogue is published by Conde Nast, which is one of the largest publishers in the World. This magazine has a circulation of 1.6 million readers (including online) from all over the World. They are published monthly, which means there are only 12 issues per year.

81% of readers are female and over half of the readers are 16- 34 (69%). This proposes that the primary audience is young females, that is why their content is mainly fashion and beauty related. This keeps their audience interested and to carry on buying this splender magazine.

Front Cover

The masthead on this front cover is very recognisable as it is used all over the World. The font is striking and classy, which is a great way to describe the magazine Vogue and its readers. The colour is a pinky- coral, and this is used to connect with the theme colour on the cover. The pink also makes the page more attractive for the viewer to see. The masthead is placed behind the main image's model, this is because it allows the audience to see the main image clearly, without any interruption from the masthead.

The colour scheme on this front cover is simple, and allows a pop of colour from the model. The masthead is then in a bright pink colour, which really contrasts with the dark grey background. The brighter colour is added as it is girly, and this magazine is aimed for young females.

The main image is of the Victoria's Secret model Miranda Kerr. This is a great use of advertising as the audience may see her and instantly want to buy the magazine, even if they have never purchased Vogue before. The model is dressed in a sating pink dress with a furry coat on. This outfit connotes girly, with a twist of modern fashion. This fits in well with the type of magazine Vogue is, as it is known for keeping up to speed with new trends. Her outfit goes really well with the background colour, and again matches with the masthead. Miranda's hair is really natural, and this connects with her easy- going makeup. I think this is a really great look, as she is a natural beauty. The image itself is a medium shot, as it showcases her body from her head to just above her knee. She is also sat on a stool, which I think really adds something different to the front cover, as props aren't normally used on covers.

The main cover line is actually "Free Spirit", which also has a little sub heading underneath. The type is serif, which gives the heading a relaxed and girly feel. Even though the main heading does not connect with the main image, it could connote with the characteristics of the model, and from a quick glance you may think the cover line is in conjunction with her, as she looks relaxed and care- free. This then invites the reader in and makes them think what is Free Spirit? It is located on the left hand side of the page due to the The Rule of Thirds, this means that when its on a magazine display, in a shop, you will be able to see the main cover line and it attracts the reader in.

The other cover lines are in the same serif font, but are a little smaller, this is so the audience is attracted to the main heading and then has the chance to also be attracted to other things on the cover. Most are down the Left Third, therefore if the main cover line does not interest someone in the audience, they may be intrigued by something else they read.

There isn't a barcode on the cover but there is the month of the issue. This is in the colour pinky- coral, so again stands out from the background and fits with the masthead. The issue month will allow keen readers to keep track of what issue they are on.

Contents

The masthead on the contents is situated at the top of the page, centered in the middle. The location really catches your eye, and adds a modern feel to this contents juxtaposing with normal content pages. It is the same colour as the masthead on the front cover, and this adds a continuing house theme throughout the magazine, creating a professional vibe. Overlapping the masthead is the word contents, this is in the colour black, this again adds a professional feel to the page.

There is only one main image on the page, this keep it simplistic and easy to navigate around as there is not a lot to look at and take in. The image is of a model sat on a chair, and is dressed in casual clothing, this follows with theme of the model on the front cover. Adding a continuous fashionable style throughout.

The font on the page is very simple, they have not used extravagant fonts as this would portray a different style and message. The masthead and title is in large car writing which allows the reader to know what page they are on. Theres also a simple heading with the page numbers and descriptions underneath. All the type on the page is in black, which makes the page simplistic. There is no sub headings such as Features, Fashion, Gossip etc, which can be confusing for readers. However the layout of the font is simple, and each article is underlined with bright blue. This adds a different pop of colour, away from the masthead and page numbers.

The page is a mix of being image led and text read. There is one clear image on the page, and lots of other text to describe the different articles in the magazine.

The text is not that clear enough to see if there is any linguistic features, but I am presuming there will be rhetorical questions, alliteration and assonance.

There is a page number on the bottom right hand side. This allows the readers to know what page they are on and gives some indication of how far the need to go ahead to look for a specific page they may need.

Double Page Spread

The colour scheme on this double page spread is black and white with a pop of red. The use of red may connote danger, as the model in the article looks rock and roll, however she is also called Rosie, therefore the red could also signify the colour of roses. Using only two colours (and white, which is not classed a colour), really adds a dramatic feel to the spread.

The layout again is very simple. It is an image- led double page spread, which allows the beauty to be seen on the model. All of the text is on the left hand page, which allows the reader to view it easily. The masthead is large and in the centre of the left hand page. This creates a professional feel to the DPS. The type is again in a large elegant font, however the colour adds a 'rock and roll' feel. There is also a bold sub- heading underneath, which gives a brief description of the article. This allows the viewer to see if they are going to enjoy the article or not, and if it is worth reading.

The image used is a mid- shot, which enables the reader to see what the model is wearing. She has got a biker jacket on with studs, using products like this help identify and theme to the audience, therefore when looking at it, I sense 'rock and roll'. This is also supported by the way her hair is styled in a mohican type quiff. All of these things really portray a different side of the model, as she is more known for girly work such as Victoria's Secret Fashion Show, therefore this shows a different side of her. This also connects with the actual heading of the article 'The Different Sides of Rosie'.

I cannot read the text, but I am presuming language such as correct punctuation, alliteration and humour will be used to keep the reader interested.
