         <title>Leadership and partnership</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>I have been involved the last couple of years in a partnership between local health services working towards increasing the numbers of nurses who work in mental health. One of the strategies is the transitioning program for new graduate nurses but also introducing clinical supervision as an important feature for professional development. This has meant that a number nurses from various sectors come together to make this program work.&nbsp; Whiteman &amp; Taylor (2012, p.71) present a number of factors as evidence for what is needed to make these partnerships work. I would agree that a shared, realistic vision, trust, managing the performance, learning and the creation of common goals are important elements. My experience has shown me that working in these partnerships&nbsp; means spending time getting to know each other for these elements to be as effective as possible. This may be 10 mins at the start or end of a meeting. As I reflect on past years, what has become apparent is that when these new partnerships are technology driven through video conferencing and key people are not physically present in early days, these elements do not develop to the level they could. The importance of the relationship is appreciated more when in the presence of the people who are part of the partnership. Getting to know each other is important. My strategy is to make the effort to attend partnership meetings instead of just video conferencing,&nbsp; so I can develop these relationships.
