Novellen forgår i et realistisk miljø, i en meget hverdags agtig situation: en skoledreng misser toget.  Den foregår primært på en perron på en togstation. Det er en helt normal dag, nok hverdag da hovedpersonen var på vej i skole. Det var nok lige i slutningen af morgenmyldretiden, der bliver også nævnt at klokken er 9:44.

I stedet for en skoledreng der misser toget er det en skoledreng der vil skyde nogle af hans medmennesker og ministeren. Det er meget presset og trygget mellem hovedpersonen og den hjemløse dage. Kvinden virker mystisk og alligevel omsorgsfuld. Folk omkring dem ligger ikke mærke til så meget og til sidst er de også alene. Drengen må have et presset psykisk miljø, måske derhjemme eller i skolen og har derfor nogle syge tanker. Han for ændret sit syn af kvindes peptalk og ser pludselig verden på en ny måde i forhold til terror.
