Dexter is a very odd, unique, and twisted individual and he has a very dark side to him. On the surface, he looks like a really normal guy with a pretty normal life working in a police lab as a blood-spatter analysts. However, we find out that he has had some really traumatic events happen to him when he was younger, and his paretns are both dead too, so he was adopted. From the book's description, he is young and relatively good looking, so choosing this actor seems like he fits the criteria. Plus, his previous roles in movies also show him having a twisted side too.

Deb is Dexter's step sister, and we know that she is a really ambitious and strong person. Jennifer Lawrence has a history of playing really strong and brave roles, so I think she would be a perfect fit for this role. Deb really wants to be an investigator and be where all the actions is, but because she and her boss do not get along, she always gets stuck doing the really low-level crime work and she hates it. Deb's goal is to prove to everyone that she is a really good police officer and can handle the more important cases.

We come into the book not really knowing what is going on,
