For many years now, the expansion westward has been continuing. Recently, the expansion has been given the nickname the manifest destiny. Manifest, meaning clear or obvious, and destiny, meaning events sure to happen. Overall, the manifest destiny means that expansion was not only good but bound to happen. Almost everyone is on board with this except the Native Americans and the Mexicans. Although they disagree with our views and opinions, we will continue to spread and let our country grow. Our sources out West tell us that rather than fighting for Oregon, and risking losing the whole thing, Polk's assistants are urging him to settle for half or the land, divide Oregon in half, and share with Britain.   You may be wondering why we are so desperate for Oregon, it all comes down to the resources that are native to Oregon. We are making progress with Oregon, but there is no way of knowing if we can put together enough money and buy land from Mexico or if our army will be effective enough to force them to leave.
