Today’s America has remained the American dream and different traditions, due to the establishments from the discovery and colonization. Something that’s clearly been safeguarded is the holiday “Thanksgiving”, which shows the importance amongst many Americans. Going back to the 1600s, the pilgrims, a religious group in England, decided to leave the UK. This caused persecution about going to a country, where they could express freedom. Their aim was Virginia, the colony of John Smith, but for some reason they landed hundreds of miles away in Massachusetts. Landing here, was kind of advantage, because the area just had been depopulated by plague, which meant it was no one to fight anymore. Nevertheless, many of them died, due to the harsh climate conditions, when they were at sea. Thanks to the Native Americans rescuing, the rest of them survived. The most important one was Squanto, who was remarkable, being Indian and speaking fluent English. Squanto did not only share wisdom about how to survive and his farming tips, but he and the other Native Americans were invited to the first ever Thanksgiving by the pilgrims, which lasted for three days.

The history of America is vast and complex. It is shaped by several events throughout the history, and various tribes and people have “discovered” America at different moments through history. If we rewind in time to hundred years ago, Europeans and Christians had been crusading against the Arabic Muslims. Due to the invasion and colonisation by the Muslims, the Spanish culture was shaped by the Arabic culture. For instance, the food was more spicy, so they needed to travel to find the right resources to their food. In 1492 a voyage to India led by Christopher Columbus encountered America. The Spanish used the encountered to colonization the south America. For a very long time people believed that Columbus had been the first one to discover America. However, it started with the discovering of America which appears to have happened for 15 000 years ago by a tribe of Siberians or Mongolians.

Europeans that wanted new lives, some because of persecution, and others because they wanted to become rich or live a better life. The Siberians that came to North-America about 2000 years before any other people. They were the first people to colonize North-America. Leif Erickson was one of the numerous amount of people that sailed and discovered North-America, but he was the first person that discovered North-America, since the Siberians settled there. Later, Columbus, The Spanish sailor that found North-America in 1492, called the people he found for Indians, because he thought he found India. About 100 years later, Europeans started to colonize North-America. England was the first country to colonize North-America, then the other countries joined in. France for example. This marked the start of the North-America we know today, if England did not colonize North-America. The US would not be the same as we know it today.

The Americas has been inhabited by a lot of different people throughout the history. From Native Americans to Europeans, this is a summary of who has inhabited North America The first humans to inhabit America were the Siberians or the Mongolians roughly 15.000 years ago. The Viking Leif Ericsson and his crew were the second people to discover America, but they left in silence after their colonization failed. Christopher Columbus found the Americas by accident in the late 15-hundreds. He was seeking India, and thought this was what he had found at first. After colonizing more and more of America, other countries wanted to get in on the action as well. Many wars were fought between the rivals, and Native Americans had to pick their side, Britain ended up coming out on top in the North. In order to make up for the money spent on the war, they increased the taxes for the Americans. The Americans found this highly unfair. They didn’t like the feeling of being controlled by Britain, therefore they started a war. The civil war was fought from 1776-1783 and resulted in 13 independent states.

America is made up of many different ethnicities. It was first discovered 15,000 years ago, when a tribe of Siberians or Mongolians crossed a land bridge that connected Alaska to Asia. The land bridge sank, and the visitors stayed in Alaska. A Viking sailed from Greenland to America, and established a colony. He called it Vinland, but the colony failed. The Vikings did therefore not take over the United States. Spain, however, knew that spice trade was the most successful product of commence, and desperately attempted to become part of the trade. Therefore, they sponsored Columbus, who’s plan was to reach the east by heading west. When doing so, they stumbled upon America, thinking it was the east Indies. They called the inhabitants “Indians”. The Spaniards colonized most of central and south America. This made Spain the most striking nation in Europe. There was almost one hundred years after Columbus, before England created their first colony in the New World. A settlement in Jamestown, which started planting Tobacco, lead to a huge success. The Pilgrims in England heard of this, and set out for Virginia. They ended up in Massachusetts. Half of the them died, and the rest survived mainly because of the Native Americans, the Indians, who taught them how to survive and what to plant. The Pilgrims later invited the Native Americans for a three-day feast, now known as Thanksgiving. The American people have been made up and developed from many ethnicities, like the Europeans, Asians and Mongolians.

Spain’s influence in Americas history The Christianization in Spain in the 1490s didn’t just force the Muslims out of the country. With them all the Arabic spices disappeared as well. That was a big problem because spices were a must for all the prosperous countries. The Spanish king tried together with Portugal to enter the “spice trade” on the way down via south Africa. That way was very dangerous and so the Spanish king searched for another route. Christopher Columbus tried, belonging to the idea that the earth is a ball, to go west over and thus he discovered a new continent, America. When he first saw the “new world” he obviously thought it was the western part of India. And as the world discovered that he founded a new continent, everyone was trying to find a way through it. They were “searching for the northwest passage”. After some time, they discovered that there was no way and they gave up. In the same time the Spanish didn’t care so much about all the searching and stayed in America to colonize it. They founded gold and started farming in all the middle and south of America. With that luck, Spain was soon the most magnificent country in Europe.

After the two world wars, America was still not done with wars. You would probably imagine that The United States were friends with their allies under WW2, instead USA had a psychological war against their WW2 ally – Soviet Union. USA and the USSR had an almost forty-year lasting war, the Cold War. This was not a physically war, rather a mental, ideology-based war. The two countries fought about their ideologies, the communism and the capitalism. While America tried to spread the capitalism, and had propaganda against communism in West-Europe, the Soviet Union spread communism in the Eastern part of Europe. The countries also embraced their power by showing off their weapons, as well as building an army of atomic weapons. When at the most, The USA and the USSR had enough weapons to erase the world a couple of times each. This race, against world army domination, was called the nuclear arms race. Several years with fear in the world´s population went by until 1989 when the Berlin wall fell. This was the beginning of peace negotiations and the ending of the Cold War.

The USA has been a superpower in the world for a long period now. A result of the total domination, the USA has been the head of a lot conflicts in the world for several decades. The world faced the Cold War as a result of the race for world domination. It was between the superpower Soviet Union and the USA. The war was based on which country that behaved like the most powerful country in the international society. The war played a major role in spreading propaganda and the ideologies, communism and capitalism, to the rest of the world. The war tempted a lot of attention from the rest of the world and America became a prototype of power. That has made a lot of people adapt to the American culture and their language.

After the end of world war two, there were two opposing superpowers emerging in the form of the United States of America and the Soviet Union. After dealing with Nazi Germany, these two superpowers sought to spread their influence throughout the world, and thus the Cold War began. They competed in space. The Soviets launched the first satellite and the first man into space in 1957. While the United States won the race to the moon. Communism had spread to Cuba in 1959, and in 1962 the Soviets decided to place nuclear missiles in Cuba. This situation led to a serious escalation, almost resulting in total nuclear war. But it was resolved as they agreed to remove the missiles. Berlin Wall was broken in 1989, this marked the beginning of the end of the Cold War.

Paragraph about slavery and the civil war

In the early 1600s colonial officials (in the American colonies) found it difficult to attract and retain laborers under the harsh frontier conditions. And because of this, they began to import slaves from Africa. The first African slaves to reach the English colonies arrived in Jamestown, Virginia in 1619, and were brought by Dutch traders. The importation of slaves continued to increase during the 1700s and reached a peak in the early 1800s. In the late 1700s there was a movement to abolish slavery, or at least the slave trade, in the UK and the US. Beginning during the revolution and in the first two decades of the post-war era, every state in the north abolished slavery, ending with new jersey in 1804. In 1807, the US made the importation of new slaves illegal. America`s westward expansion, along with a growing abolition movement in the north, would provoke a great debate over slavery that would tear the nation apart in the bloody American civil war. The war ended in 1864, and the Union victory freed the nation`s 4 million slaves.

To learn about this topic, we have read different texts which explains the main events that is important when it comes to explaining the creation of America. Both texts have gone back hundreds of years to explain the whole process, even with small details such as names of Indian tribes. I think it is good that they included such details since it completes the text and fulfills my expectations. The texts were written in a chronological order, that means the text started where the actual story started and told it in order. It starts out telling us about how people from Asia travelled over the ocean and settled. It further tells us about the development and conflicts inside the American border, how the economy grew and how every country wanted a piece of land.

When the Americas were discovered, and people realized there was no easy way to the spice islands, people tried to get money from other sources. The colonies turned into financial loot piles for the European countries, where they reaped all the resources of the land. They also inflicted a harsh rule one the former inhabitants of the new world. Colonies turned into the foundation of a powerful nation, and therefore all countries strived to gain as many as possible. The colonial lords waged an economic and cultural war against each other, for power, wealth, glory and land. This lead a high concentration of superpowers in Europe.

Even though Columbus wasn’t the first one to discover America his exploration was still significant. While Europe was emerging from the middle ages Christopher Columbus “discovered” America. In fact, Columbus thought that he had found India during his voyage for a shortcut. Due to his assumptions, he called the inhabitants Indians. Centuries of contact with the Arab countries had left a taste for spicy food among the Spain’s. Thus, the reason the Spanish crown financed his search for India. Furthermore, the Spain’s knew that spices was the most profitable item of commerce. An industry of finding a way around the country without spices came to life because of Columbus's mistake. This Industry was called “the search for the northwest passage”.

The United States' involvement in Vietnam was mainly due to a suspicion of the Domino Theory. The Domino Theory meant that if one nation became communist, other nations around it would also fall to communism. The American government supported the South Vietnamese government in fear of the Soviet influence spreading across Asia. Half a million US troops were placed in Vietnam by 1967, and by the time the last soldiers returned in 1975, 58 000 Americans had been killed and 2000 soldiers were still missing in action. The exceptional thing about this specific war, was that 61% of the American soldiers were 19 years old or younger. Actually, a large quota of the American public was against the conflict, because gruesome acts of war were televised. The aftermath for the veterans were not easy. They had a feeling of failure after losing the war for the first time. In fact, more than 20 000 veterans committed suicide.

One of the most important happening many would say was when Columbus discovered America by accident. Christopher Columbus were actually supposed to find a shorter seaway to India, the plan was to sail around the earth west way instead off the east way. When Columbus discovered America, it was a unique event. Shortly after America was discovered people heard of the opportunity. Religious people wanted to go to America to flee from the religious hostile culture so they could worship their god as much as they wanted. Later after the first thirteen colonies were built, the people who lived there were tired of the English men having so high taxes. So, they started a revolution for independence.

America was first discovered a very long time ago by those who are now called Indians, however Christopher Colombus didn't find it until 1492, while looking for India. Furthermore, the first English colonists din't arrive before 1585, and it took them a while to figure out how to survive starvation and diseases, before they could start colonizing the land. When they eventually did (sometimes with the help of peaceful Indians), they gained control over the land and settled in colonies. In 1775, the War of Independence against the Brits started, because Britain taxed them too heavily, among other reasons. America won, and in 1776 they declared themselves independent from the Brits. From 1619, they participated in slave trade, however that was prohibited when the Northern States with Abraham Lincoln won the Civil War in 1869, and all slaves were freed. The Americans also waged a war against Germany both in the first and second world war. After the cold war against The Sovjet Union, they established themselves as one of the world's superpowers.

The early colonization of America contributed to the multicultural America we all know today. At the very beginning indigenous people settled in before 10.000 BC. Multiple cultures were formed at the time. The European colonization of America started in 1492 when Christopher Columbus first arrived. However, most colonies were not formed until after 1600. The French built small settlements along the Mississippi River and the Gulf Coast, and the Spanish in Florida and the Southwest. Thirteen British colonies contained 2.5 million people along the Atlantic Coast east of the Appalachian Mountains by the 1770s. When the French and Indian Wars came to an end in the 1760s, the British government imposed new taxes, neglecting the colonists' argument that the new taxes needed their approval. This tax resistance, especially the Boston Tea Party in 1773 contributed to punitive laws that the Parliament designed in order to end self-government in Massachusetts.

A short summary of the history of the United States

At first, the territory we now call the United States was inhabited solely by Native Americans. But then, after a few visits from other civilizations such as China and the Vikings, Christopher Columbus discovered America in 1492. At first, they thought they had found another way to reach India, and therefore, they mistakenly called the inhabitants "Indians". When they realized that they had discovered a new continent, they started placing colonies there instead since imperialism was the newest fashion among the current global powers (such as France, Britain, Spain and Portugal etc.). While most of the countries was occupied with their own internal affairs, Spain quickly looted all of South- and Central America for all its gold, and established slave-driven plantations on the new world. England decided they wanted some of the share as well, but found out they were a century late to the party, and did not find any gold or other valuable materials. What they did find however, was a lush new land where people who wished for a second start could move and begin a new life. They didn't care about the inhabitants who already lived there, and most of them died out due to diseases brought from Europe. In 1621 the native Americans taught the colonist how to eat turkey, and that's how Thanksgiving was invented, though it didn't become a national holiday until 1864.
Sources:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U1mlCPMYtPk

Germany was also responsible for other attacks against American merchant ships. As a consequence, of the attacks, the U.S. had declared war against Germany. The U.S. made its major contributions in terms of supplies, raw material, and money. Thanks to the U.S. involvement the WWI ended in 1918.

Over the years many different people have arrived in America wanting a better life or new possibilities. The first people discovering and settling America were Siberians or Mongolians that crossed a land bridge over to North-America from Asia. Later various people also came. A Chinese ship came just outside California, the Vikings came and also a confused Irish monk. But it wasn’t before Columbus discovered it in 1492 that America started to increase drastically in inhabitants. Due to his discovery, America has become what it is today. The pilgrims from England came to this country in 1620 because their they could worship who they wanted too. They were the first to dream the American dream, and in many ways, are the foundation of the way Americans still see themselves.

The statue of Liberty is a symbol of an important event in the American history. The statue of Liberty is placed in Liberty Island in New York. This statue was meant as a gift from the French people to the United states, in celebration of their independents. In the 20th century, the statue became a symbol of hope not only for the people living in the united states, but for many immigrants who passed through Ellis Island. And in both the World War I and II the statue was a patriotic icon for the United states. Today, the statue of liberty is a fixture of New York city as well as a symbol for the United nation. It is also a very famous place for tourists. Even in 2009 the statue had 3.2 million visitors. However, the statue is still a symbol of hope and freedom today as well as a remarkable event in the American history.
