So far we have decided on 2 songs to perform; an original written by me called Feeling Alive, and Slow Dancing In a Burning room by John Mayer. We started practicing Slow dancing in a burning room as that was the song we had no practice on. We ended up learning the intro and first verse by using a guitar tab and printing off the lyric sheet. There will also be Jared playing lead and Rhys playing bass. My vocal delivery will be gentle and soft and I will do a soft strum for the guitar.  This is because it is quite a slow song and I want the audience to understand the words that I am singing. Whilst performing on stage we are going to have a fire place projected on a back drop with red, yellow, and orange lights so that it fits the theme and adds emotion to the performance.


Give Me Love - I will be playing lead guitar for this song. I will be playing acoustic as it is an acoustic based song and I'll be the only guitarist so it wouldn't sound very good on an electric. Grace will be singing lead vocals and with Evie doing backing vocals. In comparison to Slow Dancing in a Burning Room this song is also slow and soft. I will be standing behind Grace and Evie as they are the main focus for this performance and I am acting like more of session player. For this performance I would like to have quite cooled coloured lights with hints of red for the theme of love.
 

Nobody But You - I will playing rhythm guitar and I will be the lead vocalist. Rhys will be playing lead guitar & Jared will be playing drums. This is a rock style song with a hint of folk and pop. Our main influences were Coldplay & John Mayer. This is clear with the use of the soft & breathy vocals and the building guitar solo at the end song to finish the performance on high. I'll be standing at the front for the performance as I'll be acting as the lead. Jared will be on drums at the back and Rhys will be standing closely but slightly behind me. We would like the same lights as slow dancing in a burning room for this song.

So we were mainly practicing to get our performance to it's best standard. The song we were performing was Slow dancing in burning room by John Mayer. The rehearsals went really well as it was the first time we had practiced. On the other hand the performance didn't go as well as the rehearsals. I think this was mainly down to nerves and my Mic technique. The Mic was a bit too high as I kept looking down to the guitar to make sure that I was playing correctly. This was also noticed by the audience. To improve this I can move the Mic slightly down so that when I look down to my guitar the vocals don't get lost in the performance. In the end Rhys offered to play for us as well which really benefited myself and Jared. For the first session, myself and Rhys started writing an original song to perform at the end of term performance as I decided the original that I wrote wasn't going to fit in to the set we had planned. We wanted to write a soft folky song to fit in with set we will playing. After tirelessly coming up with song ideas we eventually found something we liked. The practices went really well but this was down to the fact that I already learn't the song before the session. Later on in the session we got assessed by the musical directors and Michael. I felt the performance went really well, however, the guitar playing didn't sound as good as it could have. This is mainly down to the fact that I wasn't playing with a plectrum. Playing with a plectrum would make the guitar sound more full and louder. For the actual performance Jared will be playing drum and Rhys will be playing bass which will drastically improve the performance as it will sound like a full band and will improve the dynamics + texture massively. He quickly managed to get a drum beat that fit the sound which made it sound much more full and professional. I got a lot done in this rehearsal as I figured out a new verse for the original song that we had written. This replaced the verse that I had written before. the original second verse was:

The new second verse is:

In many ways, I'm always on my own,
In many ways, I feel so alone,
In many ways, It's somehow all my fault

They are only subtle changes to the lyrics but I think they fit much better with the song. Overall this has been a great session. I would give myself a 10/10.

This means that I am responsible with making sure everyone performing has at least one song recorded. Tom & Joel are also Recording Managers. So far I have helped make a suitable plan which will mean we are ready to record as soon as possible in the session. This means we will get the most out of each session and get more recorded in the time we have. During each session I have set up Mics, Guitars and help set up the desk. In addition to this I have set up Logic and made sure that all the inputs are correct on the desk so that they are coming through the monitors and are ready to record.

During the Event planning session I have volunteered to write down all of the notes for one of the sessions. This included writing down the set list and arranging it in a sensible order so that it is appropriate for the evening. Also I have contributed in lessons and discussed my views to the class on certain situations towards the event.

During the Magnet sessions I have been critically analysed two times on my performances. I feel these have been really helpful.

I believe this went really well as we got a feel for how long our set is and preforming our full set to the rest of the group. I believe I played to my highest standard for this performance and I did really well. There were a few things that needed to be tidied up. For example there was a bit of confusion on what instrument Rhys was playing for each song. I think I improved my mic technique since the last time I performed as my vocals really came across. This helped by moving the mic down slightly. I don't think I could of improved on my guitar playing apart from timing on Nobody but you. It has definitely improved from the last time I played it.
