In our school, all G and T classes and K and 1st grade classes have implemented IM fully into their classrooms. We have had support from a Metamorphosis coach and our principal got the center materials. My 5th graders are engaged in the lessons and enjoy the number talks!

We have just begun teaching IM math. We are teaching at least once IM lesson per topic. I have taught one 3rd grade IM lesson. It did go well but it was on a very easy topic. Equal groups.

Our school is trying to weave IM into our curriculum but we are writing our own curriculum. It is very time consuming. We are including spiral review, making our own slides, creating lesson worksheets for each day since there is not much in the IM program for independent practice, and including state test questions each day. Does IM offer support for RTI groups? What resources are there for hw since it does not seem like there is a hw book?

We are incorporating the Sense-Making routines at the start of each lesson while still utilizing the enVision curriculum. The students enjoy this aspect of the lesson and it gives them something to think about, right at the start of each lesson.

Including spiral review and state test questions throughout the year so that students are comfortable with the types of questions they will be asked. They begin to notice they are very predictable.

Students are doing well working on activities that are discovery based and student-led.

Teachers are extremely overwhelmed mixing our existing curriculum with IM components and many feel as though they cannot keep afloat from day to day.

Lessons are much lengthier with the use of the different activities, sometimes spilling over into multiple periods/days. This is time we do not have with the bulkiness of the 8th grade standards.

Other teachers in my middle school are not as willing to try out the IM curriculum which makes it difficult to figure out how best to use it. We are also really focusing on Building thinking classrooms this year and the use of vertical whiteboards and random grouping. I have incorporated some of the IM warm-ups into these activities, but I find the IM lessons as a whole can be time consuming and it is difficult to get to everything while also keeping up with our usual routines that we know benefit students.

IM assumes students are at level and not lacking pre-requisite knowledge. They do have intervention lessons however navigating the site to find it takes even more time.

IM automatically grades some of the work however I still must go back and double check their grading. For example if the answer is 2^5 and the student writes 2^5 = 32, they get a zero. Grading work on IM takes longer than I imagined.

I noticed that in Grade 6, IM does not include a lesson on multiplying fractions — it only appears in the Grade 5 curriculum. However, many students are entering Grade 6 without this foundational skill. EnVision, on the other hand, includes multiplying fractions as part of the Grade 6 curriculum.

Planning takes a long time. I am copy/pasting material to make my presentation ( I do not like just using their presentation because the work is not saved), and then I am creating mini worksheets of the problems since they are wordy and printing and cutting and gluing..it is a lot.

More teachers are opening up to the transition to IM from other curriculums and seeing the quality of the materials. We have workbooks available and are getting used to it as a team.
