1. APPEARANCE IS EVERYTHING! Often times, employers won't know who you are. Make sure everything is neat and perfect.
2. Make sure all of your information is current (especially your contact info). Update frequently.
3. Your resume is just a template or starting point! You should be customizing your information for each job!
4. Look at the job description and use the same language. Some employers use filters that search for keywords in an effort to weed-out unqualified individuals.
5. Your most important and pertinent information should be on your first page. Many employers don't look beyond the first page.
6. Use different fonts, sizes, bold, italics, and underlining to highlight relevant jobs and experience. This makes it easier to find this information.
7. Work experience will eventually be your most important section, but for now, you should highlight anything and everything that shows you are the right person for the job.
8. List references on a separate sheet. You should only list someone as a reference if they will give you a glowing recommendation!
