One way SG gov can use is to provide subsidised goods and services for the lower income families. For example, the gov had built polyclinics in order to provide affordable healthcare for low-income families, in exchange for longer waiting times. This will help them reduce money spent on necessities like food and healthcare, thus accumulating more monthly savings (yes, good point), closing the income gap in SG

One way the Singapore Government can close the income gap is to impose more taxes on richer households and less taxes on poorer households. For example, the Singapore Government has implemented taxes such as the road tax for richer households that are wealthy enough to own cars. Richer households will thus need to spend more on taxes and have less money to spend on other luxuries. They will spend less money overall.(you mean spend more money?) Meanwhile, poorer households will save more money as a result of paying less taxes. This will thus close the income gap in Singapore.

road taxes are for those who owns cars BUT it doesnt mean that lower income get subsidies/ pay less tax. pls use income tax as an example instead.

For example, it is compulsory to go to school for at least 6 years in Singapore and the school fees for primary school is free for Singapore citizens. In schools, the students will be equipped with knowledge they need for in the workforce. With the knowledge, they will be able to find better jobs and will receive higher income.

The Singapore government can create more schemes to help the families in the lower socio economic status. By creating more schemes the people in the lower socio economic status that are unable to work due to disabilities are able to get subsides which could help them in paying healthcare and daily necessities. Thus the income gap would become closer as the poor would not need to pay so much for their healthcare and therefore they can use the money to pay for other stuffs or save it.

what healthcare scheme are we referring to specifically? pls at least mention healthcare subsidies.

A strategy that the singapore government can use to close the income gap is to provide free or subsidised education in singapore. For instance, in singapore, singapore citizens are provided with free primary school education, and singapore citizens studying in secondary schools also have a highly subsidised monthly school fee of only s$5. Furthermore, even when singapore citizens reach a pre-university level in singapore, their monthly school fee is only s$6. This way, low income families will not face any difficulties paying for school fees, and also provides education for the younger generations. When this generation reaches the stage in which they have to join the workforce, they wouldnt face as much competition as there is now. This is because majority of them went through the same education and none are lacking behind because they lack knowledge as compared to others. This closes the income gap in singapore as jobs will be more fairly distributed, and hence the amount of salary each worker gets as well.

Pls include specific example of Singapore providing free primary education and heavily subsidised secondary education.

The Singapore government can provide better compulsory education that is geared towards the future. As the world of technology has advanced greatly, it would only be right to educate the students on how to be more tech-savy. For example, in place even in Pei Hwa, we have a pilot programme for the use of iPads for education. There is also schools that start to teach their students simple coding and programme, such as: HTML, Java and Python. Starting next year, 2017, Programming will also be one of the many O-Level subjects and is called computering. Students will then be able to use these skills in the near future in the workforce, getting higher paying jobs. (how does higher paying job close gap? one missing link.) Therefore, decreasing the income gap in Singapore.

Pls include eg of Singapore having 6 years compulsory education.
and how improvement in education such as introduction of IT skills like Microsoft etc is introduced even at primary level.

the Singapore government can can issue out a subsidizing scheme to Singaporeans, especially those with low-income wages. For instance, the government has given cost reductions to all Financial Assistance Students (FAS) such that their parents do not have to reimburse a large sum of money to allow their children to participate in activities that build them up holistically.Moreover,low-income households can save up more for paying bills and other necessities. This would allow a geater shared holistic development of the future generation and creates opportunities for adults to increase their lifestyle affordabilities, accompanied by a more stable household. This strategy used by the government would be able to ensure greater equalizing across the socio-economic status of Singaporeans and thus, close the income gap in the country.

The Singapore Government can provide children in families of low income subsidised rates for school. For example, the government can help them by having a scheme, such as the Financial Assistance Scheme (FAS), where such students can be identified and be given subsidised school fees, free textbook and uniforms. By doing this, the parents of these children will not have to worry about paying so much for their child's education. This allows the parents of these children to work and earn more money as their children are in school. This also ensures that the children are able to get an education and learn the skills and be able to get a stable (=higher paying job) job in the future. Hence, through subsidised school rates, the parents of the students spend less on school fees and materials, and the children will be able to get stable jobs in the future and this increases their savings and assures them of having a job in the future and thus, reduces he income gap.(how does increasing savings assure job in future? pls reconsider the flow of your explanation outcomes)

The Singapore Government can make the 6 years compulsory education up to 10 years. For example, students now only have to go through 6 years of compulsory education until we clear PSLE which means they can choose to stop studying after the 6 years of compulsory education. However, if the government increases it to 10 years, they will have more knowledge even if they choose to stop after 10 years as compared to them stopping after 6 years of education and therefore be better skilled stand a better chance to find a decent paying job in the future which might allow them to accumulate greater wealth. Hence, through this the government would be able to close the income gap.

Singapore Government can close the income gap by implementing a new scheme such as Wage Credit Scheme. The Government will co-fund 40% of wage increases for Singaporean employees over the next 3 years, targeted specially at helping the employment of low- to medium-wage Singaporeans. This would ensure that Singaporean employees earning from low to medium income to be able to have a sustainable idealism, being able to have an excess salary on top of what they earn. Thus without having to trade off the cost of having high income earner to actually have to 'give' what they earn in order to help the less fortunates.

The Singapore government can close the income gap by having subsidised education. Children from families of lower income can apply for the Financial Assistance Scheme (FAS) so that the child will get free textbooks and uniforms. By doing so, children of lower income families would be able to have education without needing to worry about school fees. Without financial problems, the child would be able to get a higher level of education and get a job that is highly paid. Thus, people of lower socio economic status will be educated and get paid similarly to people of higher socio economic status, closing the income gap.

:)

The government can close up the income gap by increasing the tax liability of the rich in the form of higher property and car taxes at the top end. This wealth tax will change the consumption and investment behaviour of the rich remains to be seen. It is less likely the rich would move their assists outside of singapore because the income tax will still remains competitive and corporate tax is low relative to other developed economies. So when the rich people still remain in Singapore, they still have to pay the raised tax knowing that if moving out of singapore, there would be no benefit or reduced tax. By charging higher taxes on richer people, it could fill in the holes that the poorer people can't afford to pay because of the lowered taxes required for them to pay. By giving and taking, the government does not face any economic loss in any way as the rich are able to fill in the holes the poor can't. By paying lesser taxes, the poor will then be able to save more money to lesson the income gap as the rich will then not be able to save more money as their tax are higher .

gd explanation.
pls use specific example as income tax.

The government ensures that all Singaporeans have at least completed primary school by implementing compulsory 6 year education that is free for all children. The government also provides financial assistance along the way for lower income families for children in secondary and tertiary education, for example by providing financial assistance scheme to help the students purchase necessary school materials. This ensures that no one in Singapore is having their education hindered because of financial problems and everyone will progress as one, with each and every singaporean have a chance to excel in education and secure themselves a high paying job.

Investing into education would help solve this issue. Schools with lower costs or greater budgets will be more attractive to citizens, and more people will be willing to go to and actively participate in school. Schools with greater budgets will allow student to attend more courses provided by the school and have better equipment to learn. This will lead to a more well educated country. More people will be be able to get jobs with higher pay due to better education, with a higher pay, they will be better able to get out of the lower socio economic group, and better able to to have more real dispoable income, thus aiding in closing the income gap. In Singapore, the government has provided government schools with funds, which have been used to build rooms such as the computer lab.
