Not always. A current account deficit means that the economy is importing more than it is exporting. this means that the consumers are consuming more than they produce, which is good for the economy. However, it does have a few problems when kept for a long time. 1. the currency might depreciate as there is a decrease in the demand for it. 2. increased borrowing from abroad, this causes a poor international credit rating which makes it harder to get more loans. 3. higher interest rates, to attract financial investments. 4. contractionary fiscal policies to lower incomes, therefore decreasing imports. 3 and 4 may lead to a recession. 5. sale of domestic assets to make up for the debt, reducing a country's control over their assets.
