I want to make sure children see themselves as well as others in order to be confident enough to learn from and learn with each other. The school's certainly come a long way in 20 years, but it's still got a lot of catching up to do.

Fun Fact: In my mid-twenties I quit my job and traveled around the world for a year. This experience had a big impact on me, shaped the way I see the world, and certainly informs my interest in DEI.

Going to nursing school in Philadelphia opened my eyes and helped me grow a lot in this area, especially around noticing and fighting against racial inequities in healthcare. Shifting my focus from healthcare to the education system will be very enlightening I'm sure. As David said, this is a life-long journey and I look forward to learning, growing and making a difference with the Epiphany School community together!

I feel that we all have a responsibility to commit ourselves to DEI work, and that joining the DEI team is really the minimum requirement (in my mind) in a world that we are always gaining a better understanding of, and that involves SO MUCH that exists outside of ourselves. I'm here to continue to learn how I can do better, advocate for others, critically assess some of our school norms that we can improve upon to make more inclusive and equitable, and broaden our DEI scope.
